Another question Bill? While limiting your plays to one play doesn't that also limit your chance for profit on said race?
I don't get the only one choice per race method, I guess? What if your pick is 3-1 and say your 2nd choice is 8-1, would you always bet the 3-1 to win?

No, of course not. But I don't have the time to give over to researching every variation of the system under test. Keeping the experimental design simple will allow me to determine whether the system is really worth pursuing.
You can be sure that if I think there is something there at the end of the first phase of testing, I will incorporate it into my handicapping methodology.
Everything else being equal, yes, I'd probably bet the 8/1 shot over the 3/1 in real life.
