Well, shoot. I hope he heals quickly. Geez, this is a weird year. Maybe I just wasn't paying such close attention in years past, but is this normal to have so many horses drop out?

I wonder who's next in line now?

This year actually seems to be a bit light compared to years past as far as dropouts this close to the derby goes. We seemed to have alot early on this year before all the preps were done though. Seems like years past there was more after the final preps. Who knows...either way...to answer your question it is pretty typical unfortunately.

Apparently, Derby Kitten is now in. I had thought he was tied with Mr. Commons for graded earnings, but I guess the latter decided not to try the big dance. I wonder, though, if there is a tie, how is it decided? Cage match? Rock, scissors paper?

I saw this somewhere recently. I think Derby Kitten has more non-graded stakes earnings than the other one, which is apparently the next level of eligibility.
