Good mile stake at Belmont featuring Haynesfield's return.

I like :1: Convocation a bit, but 9-2 is too low.
I'll play exactas :1::5: and :5: :1:

I like the :6: to regress after two tops off a long layoff.

Not sure how the hell anyone would bet Haynesfield in this spot off the layoff. The fact that he went off at 4-5 is precisely why this game is the greatest game in the whole wide world.

Is it just me, or did Caixa Electronica run a helluva race winning the Westchester?

As TLG just said on the NYRA feed, it's not like he sat way off that quick pace...in fact, I was grumbling to myself as the race was unfolding that Cornelio was keeping this horse needlessly close to a quick early pace. (Yes, I am redboarding...sorry, I can't help it at this point).

Convocation had every single right to blow by them all late, but he had little to offer in the stretch...he came into the race with a sizable late pace advantage...unless something happened to Convocation physically (although now looking at it, his comeback race was pretty poor), it makes Caixa all the more impressive down the lane.

Only one in the race that showed anything in the stretch.
Convo - big flatten out.

When was the last time Todd Pletcher claimed a horse? He ran a nice fig in his last that made him a secondary pick for me, but the attention in the Pletcher barn moved him up a bunch.

What's more perplexing is why run 3rd by 2 in a graded stakes then drop him in for a claim????

I gotta look up this Dubis.
3rd to Tackleberry, so he drops him into a claimer.

do you actually watch racing lol?

He was a 6 year old horse who had run through all of his allowance conditions and wasn't good enough to win graded stakes for his connections. Hindsight, he tt is great and all but he got thumped in the hal's hope, he lost to tackleberry, he tackled GS company last year and got thumped as well. But he has ran through his allowance conditions so if you are going tgo run him you have to put him in for a tag to still run in the allowance race and just hope no one takes him. That's the game.

on face value $62,500 is a good size amount for a 6 yr old with no conditions left. i'm sure they didn't think him capable of this....and with them maybe he wasn't. sometimes you just tip your hat.

First graded stakes win for "The Grey Win Machine" (http://gregcalabrese.blogspot.com/2010/02/arromanches-remembered.html). Does anyone remember Caixa Electronica's sire Arromanches? (http://arromanches.homestead.com/BasicInfo.html)

Pletcher had 2 horses in uncoupled and sacrificed Liam running a 44 half and running Haynesfield into the ground so Caixa Electronica could sit off the pace and pounce for his billionaire owner Repole, wonder how the Evans estate liked their horse being sacrificed like that, ? Next time will be their turn. Shades of Dutrow.with his wabbits

Of course...he had the long winning streak (10?), was claimed by a horrid trainer and lost, claimed back and won again.

With a very cynical pair of glasses, I wonder if we won't start to see more than a few of the Evans horses start to tail off in form in advance of the dispersal sale at Keeneland in the fall.

It will then be interesting to see how many of those Pletcher plucks up for some of his other owners.
