From a business standpoint, seems like a good move. They are expecting 35-40K to attend. They sacrificed Sunday racing for it, with the excuse they couldn't get the place cleaned up. I'm serious about that, even though they clean the Oaks mess up for Derby day. They are going to race Tuesday-Saturday Derby week.

It strikes me as an insult to the national racing fan base who are far more likely to be playing Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

For me the big opening day today will be Delaware.

Over 38,000 attendance tonight at Churchill. I think I read it was a record for a non Derby/Oaks/BC day.

The game has changed night racing is probably preferred by a majority now. If they want to attract a younger base the 6-7 PM post time is a good way to start.

With baseball losing it's popularity over the years handle and interest could perk up when it's the only sport playing.

I wonder what kind of rating the derby would do in prime time. There are lots of Derby parties now with people who don't follow the sport.
