Today, in race 2 the winning horse had lost his last 5 races by a total of over 100 lengths.
In race 3 the winner had lost his last 5 races by over 75 lengths.

Given that, the winner of the 5th race could come from:
:3: who has only 4 starts but has a 75 length loss factor going for him

at the beginning of the meet all kinds of crazy stuff happens there because recent form means nothing many times. I am surprised Saez was on a couple nice prices as he should be one of the dominant jocks if he stays

Gulfstream's surface is much harder and different than Calder's. The $115 winner had actually won the last time he raced on Calder's main track.

We need to come with a catchphrase for Calder.

Calder: Where turning the DRF upside down is the way to go.

all I can tell ya...is if a 20, 30, 40/1 shot is bet down for NO APPARENT reason to 8/5 and also in the double's, p/3's ect...that horse WILL win...no MATTER what...even if zig zagging all over the track... ;)

Horses that favor, or dislike, certain surfaces is one of the most interesting aspects of handicapping. It's amazing how much some horses can improve just be switching tracks.

Horses with foot or shin problems will sometimes benefit from a deeper surface like Calder.
