It's been a long winter and an uninspiring Derby trail (Keeneland has been a nice refresher), but Belmont approaches.
THANK HEAVENS, and I hope you're prepared for turf sprints baby, cuz here they come.

Last year they ran about 110 turf sprints at the Bel spring/summer meet. Gotta learn to play these as they permeate the cards will inevitably be in the P3-P4-P6 sequences. Linda Rice isn't the only answer...
Did a lot of homework this winter on Bel turf sprints. Hopefully it will pay off.

Entries are drawn tomorrow (i think) for Friday's opener...CAN'T WAIT !!!

I've come to like these turf sprints. Would rather have a full field turf sprint than half a field sprinting on the dirt any day. Only bias I can see against them is that they seem to be something considered "new". Turf sprint has been a staple everywhere else in the world, so why not here too?

Belmont sprints on the turf are unique due to the size of the course and longer distances compared to other tracks.

The 7-panel races on the grass they run at BEL: are they a short turf race or a long turf sprint?

Does it seems that Cornelio Velasquez is carrying some momentum into Belmont. Can not wait for Belmont to open. Let all the inner dirt horses become ponies for the summer and bring out the big boys.

No matter how bad things are going, the opening of a different race track brings joy to the heart of the handicapper.

Here is a link to an interesting article about the beginnings of turf racing at Belmont:

Two turf sprints the first day, and 90+ horses entered, things looking good for NYRA, I hope!!!
