Baltimore's one time Mayor and Governor passed away Monday at the age of 89. He was a character. He was the driving force behind the National aquarium, Inner Harbor, Oriole Park @ Camden Yards and Ravens stadium.

He was stubborn and arrogant but he always, always put the city first. He would have his chauffer drive him around Baltimore at 2-3 AM and locate potholes, trashy alleys, etc. Later that morning, he would call in his dept. of Public works chief and tell him what he had found and give a general location and 2-3 nights later the problem areas had better be fixed or there was hell to pay. Quite a character and a good man; even for a Democrat !!

RIP- Willie Don.

It has been all downhill in the Mayor's office ever since he left.

you could say that about all politicians since his era, sadly, that's why we are where we are.

"profiles in courage " ? where are they ?

I have been hearing this from many many people over the last few days. Many cops I work with were talking about how sad it is that they don't make em like that anymore.........

Having a great horse like Blame win the latest installment of The William Donald Schaffer Handicap never seemed more fitting.

Thanks for posting the news, CJ's Dad.

I've always liked hangin' with gents like him. He clearly figured out years ago that most people take themselves FAR more serious than they should.
