I was wondering about deleted emails and where they go to when they are deleted.

If I am in Outlook my shredder will destroy the email. But if I go thru Roadrunner it won't. Have tried to set it up but it will not go. Roadrunner blocks it.

So I was wondering, if you set a restore point does the deleted files show again?

Suppose you got a file that you knew had a virus, if you can't shredd it then what happens? Would that virus be on your computer somewhere?

Neighbor lady says than Yahoo lets you bring some deleted files back up? If that is true, why? Where do those emails sit?

just curious. How do you destroy them?

thanks

I cannot provide any explanation on what happens at Yahoo (or even Gmail, which I use).

Neither am I positives about what occurs on a Windoze Restore, however the restore is an ISO (screenshot) file (image) of your hard drive and the idviduial emails or their contents would not be accessible with any software except those software's which may utilize the ISO in a "restore capacity".

As far as Outlook, Outlook Express and/or newer versions of same (Mail something)?

All emails are stored in files (at least in Outlook and OE) with an IDX extension. These may be copied or moved, however I'm not aware of any method of editing them. There are other non-MS utilities that are able to deal with these file types.

When you delete and email (Outlook or OE), the email is simply moved to the deleted items folders.
What happens next is dependent upon how you have your email software configured.
In most instances, the deleted email sits within the "deleted.idx" file until the next time you "compact files" in the email software. At the point of compact and reboot afterwards, a a new "empty" idx is created.
However and having backed up these idx files monthly for more than ten years, I'm able to provide that frequently an additional deleted.idx is created that is named "deleted(1).idx (eventually disappears).

As far as your RoadRunner? and/or my Gmail?
The best practice is to NOT use their web pages for email access, rather setup up your RoadRunner email access from your Outlook or OE, and then configure both your RoadRunner-web-access- and your Outlook/OE to "delete from server" after download.
The later and downloading into IE "should" prevent and copies (deleted or otherwise) from being retained on your RR account.

SHe is my neighbor and she plays on ebay with some of her friends. They have a group that works together.

They try to make a couple hundred each month so they can go to the casino at the end of the month and "blow off some steam".
