Hello, PA people.

John wishes to thank you all for your prayers, generosity, and well wishes.
It has been a tremendous strength to him, these past difficult weeks.
He will probably be making a statement on the Santa Anita website, thanking racing fans.
John has several weeks of therapy before he can walk well again, but he is determined to be back on the job at the fall Santa Anita meet.
Thanks again to all of you.

Here is some great news, courtesy of the Santa Anita publicity folks. I think John Shear deserves to be saluted by Santa Anita and the whole racing industry very soon, and I think he will be:

ARCADIA -- John Shear, Santa Anita's 90-year-old Paddock Guard who was gravely injured while protecting a 6-year-old girl from a runaway horse on March 12, will be released from Huntington Memorial Hospital on Saturday, according to his son, Michael.

"My dad wishes to thank you all for your prayers, generosity, and well wishes," said Shear. "It has been a tremendous strength to him over these past difficult weeks. He'll be released from the hospital this Saturday and will be going home, where he will continue with physical therapy.

:jump: :jump: :jump: Fantastic news!! I'm so happy Mr. Shear will be going home. Right now we are trying to prepare for the passing of my mom, she's 99 years old, and up until just a few months ago, she was like Mr. Shear...strong and independent and very determined...I told her all about Mr. Shear and his act of courage and how well he's healed up, she said "God Bless him, he is one tough cookie" (her words)...so God Bless you, Mr. Shear...it's going to be a fantastic day at Santa Anita when you get back to the paddock.

Thanks, everyone.
Joanied, your Mom sounds wonderful. God Bless her.

A local CBS news show had a piece on John. It was very nice.
Mike Wilman of Santa Anita put out the press release this morning and many news outlets have picked it up.
They may even film him leaving Huntington Hospital.

Again, Pace Advantage people, you guys have been great.
John has read all your posts. :jump:

Hi Diane,

Happy birthday...John coming home is the best gift ever!! I hope he continues to beat the odds and everyone gets to throw him a big "Welcome Home" party when he gets back to the paddock.

Thank you for the kind words about my mom...but I must sadly report that mom passed away early Friday morning...she passed peacefully and my brother was with her. It's been tough, regardless of the fact she was here for 99 years...she loved horse racing, and everytime I went to see her, we would watch HRTV all day...up until she was 95, she'd go the the QH races in Billings, MT with us and she did really good betting all her hunch plays...one of her Grandson's was born on Kentucky Derby day, 14 years ago...and he would watch the Derby with Grandma every year.
Mom thought the Thoroughbred was a gift from God, the most beautiful horses in the World. We are going to miss her so very much.

Bruddah and andy...
Thank you so very much.

My dad died 35 years ago (hard to beleive) he had a fifth heart attack (mom and me tried in vain to bring him back with CPR)...but with his fourth heart attack, he did die and they brought him back...my dad was not one to elaborate on stories or imagine things happening, but a few weeks after he told my mom that he was watching '"some people he didn't know" do "something with him" (the doctors working on him) and that no one needs to fear death because "he felt a great peace and a gentle touch, he saw a light and was asked if he wanted to come to it or go back"...he said he needed to go back....and so he did.

Maybe it will comfort some others to know that story...it did for us.

Than you both for your kind words.

Glad to read Mr. Shear is on the road to recovery. It be tough for a man 1/2 his age, but he appears up to the task.

Hopefully they release the video to show peeps they need to be alert around these horses.

Hey John, I'm only 65 and have come to a pertinent Life decision. I want to be just like you, when I grow up!

You're my hero. Have a good trip to Las Vegas. Play good poker, take their money, and have a drink or two. I suggest leaving all those young purdy women alone or Diane will break the other leg.

I have a cousin in Vegas that moved there from Miami just to play Poker...she kicks a$$...plays all night, just about every night...she's 80 years young and I'm going to tell her to watch for John...she plays mostly at the Bellagio.

John plays poker there often, Joanied. He'll have to look for your cousin.

No kiddin'?? Small world, isn't it...I'm sending her an email with a photo of John attached... her name is Loucille...now wouldn't it be a kick if they were playing at the same table, Diane:jump:
The Bellagio shloud put out the red carpet for John and give him plenty of 'house' chips to play with!!
