You'd think a Google search would work, but . . .
Does anybody have or know where to get the past 10 years (or more) of betting on the Kentucky Derby? Just the one race? All-sources would be great.

Thanks.

You can go to Equibase historical charts for that. Might be tedious. Hint: When searching by the year, click the first Saturday when you get the May calendar up :)

Will the historical charts give the Derby handle or just the day's handle?

Looks like you would have to add up the individual handles from each race. Also, it looks like this is on-track handle only.

I got curious and did a quick Google search, found the past few years and one earlier one. This is all-sources handle just on the Derby itself, which I think is what you asked for.

1999: 57.2 million (just for some perspective)
2006: 119.5 million
2007: 118.3 million (this was the first decline in 16 years)
2008: 114.5 million
2009: 104.6 million
2010: 112.7 million

i wonder if the handle will be under 100 million this year. With all the crap going on with north american racing I wouldnt doubt it.

It was 112 last year, up from the year before, I'd expect somewhere between the 2009 and 2010 numbers.

The xpressbet accounts also had major issues on Derby Day last year.

Ha, 2006 was the last year I worked there, but I wasn't betting that much :D

Handle will be up because the race is so wide open. Many people are looking at this race as a lottery shot to hit a tri or super. You hit the super in this race for a buck, you can quit your job the next day no matter what comes in.
