It's sad to say but this race in my humble opinion, has very little relevance. it's more a prep for the Secretariat than a prep for the Derby.

I'm going to say an 84-86 Beyer.

Sinister Minister, was that the last year they ran on it on dirt?

What a freaky race that was, you kept waiting for him to come back to the field and he never did.

Mott seems to be pleased with Newsdad .I've been following and betting him lately. I didn't expect him to turn up here. It says to me he must be doing very well. If he runs 1-2, I'll have a big day.

At any rate...here's my picks:
Wilkinson

Freaky is the term I'd use as well. He never won a race afterwards.

Just heard the "mig" commenting on the many trainer and jockey changes for Santiva coupled with the strange workout/race progression. Anyone going to take a chance on him Saturday?

The owner calls the shots with that horse so the schedule is very shakey. I'm gonna pass on him.

I played Santiva last out because I thought he looked like an improving horse. I liked his race a lot and have been waiting to play him back, but I'm not a fan of this move back to synthetic. He ran on dirt, then turf, then synthetic, then dirt, then back to synthetic. I don't get it. I'll just watch and decide what to do with him in the Derby.

On top of that, he's been through several trainers. He's like a foster child.

the sad thing is this horse will bump another horse out of the Derby.

And the one that gets bumped is better? Maybe next year but not this.

The pace looked to be honest with an E8 in the mix and a sprinter. There were 2 P5's in there that liked to be within a length of the lead at the pace call.A decent pace, but not so fast that it set up for a stone cold closer.A logical presser won the race.Couldn't believe they gave 19-1.

I'm not sure I follow. The winner was dead last after six furlongs in a tepid 1:14.76. He certainly didn't press today.

Yeah I know that! The 5 was no more than 5 and a half lengths back at the first call in any of his rateable races. He was 7 today. The only shocker was I had him being about 3 back at the pace call.He was 8 today. My prerace analysis had the winner even though it didn't run that way, especially with 3yo's that haven't completely established their preferences yet.Funny things happen when the gate opens.I had the horse as a presser. And while the number wasn't fast they were crowded.4 and half lengths covered 10 at the half.Hindsight is 20/20.

I can't believe I actually bet this race...did the same stupid thing last year also. Someone kindly remind me of this dumb move next year.
I got lucky with Dominican the first year they ran the Blue Grass on poly and have been trying to re-create that score ever since.

We've had threads about the diminishing stature of this race and this years' result will add to that.

How soon we all forget... In 2010 this race produced the 3rd and 4th place finishers in the Derby, the runner-up in the Preakness and 3rd in the Belmont.
