Jaycito was scratched from the April 9 Santa Anita Derby because of a sore foot but was able to resume training the following Monday for trainer Bob Baffert and is on course for the Grade 3 Lexington. The colt was scheduled to arrive Monday at Churchill Downs with other horses being flown from southern California.

Jaycito was 17th on the graded earnings list as of Friday with $250,000 and would cement his chances of making the 20-horse cutoff for the Derby by earning a check in the Lexington.

why laugh at archarcharch

he broke his maiden in a stake race

he WILL get 10F without question

his 2 losses are legit excuses, the first came on a track after we had like 5 closed days beucase of snow and it was really funky and the last lost, he got beat up by the horse acting up before the race and still ran 3rd.

he won the southwest and the arknasas derby.

the last 4 horses to win at lesat 2 legs of the arknasas derby trail are smarty jones, curlin, afleet alex and lawyer ron.

probably going to be my derby horse.

Sorry , never saw this post. I like him in the derby as I think he is just getting really good. I also like Jaycitos breeding but I'm not all that sure about him getting the distance plus this physical problem may be more than is being said. You know how these trainers are.
We may all have a problem though. There are a couple of if's involved. If they decide to run him in the derby, and they very well might because of the defeat of Uncle Mo and The Factor, and if he takes to dirt, Master Of Hounds could easily be the best horse in the derby.
Probably the best bred horse that would be in there, has speed and can definitely get the distance. I'm hoping not because I stand to win 17 Gs if AAA wins. ;)

The Kee Barn Notes did not mention him. Then today in the story about Uncle Mo they said the plane he was on was ultimately going to go to CA and pick up some horses, including Jaycito. Then the story changed to "possibly Jaycito."

I don't know how Baffert normally does it, but with The Factor and Misremembered he worked them on either Sunday or Monday for a Tuesday ship. It would be unorthodox for Jaycito, who hasn't worked or run since 4/2 to work on Wed at Kee, 3 days out of a race. I hope for your sake that he's OK because you're a fan and it sucks to have a horse you like get hurt shortly before the Derby. Those of us that were Quality Road and Eskendereya fans have had enough of it.

Jaycito has not worked since 4/2 and was not mentioned among the probables by Keeneland's racing secretary yesterday in their Barn Notes section. I'd be looking increasingly doubtful that Jaycito will make his scheduled appointment in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland, in which he would have been one of the top choices.
The Lexington became an option for Jaycito after he missed the Santa Anita Derby on April 9 with a bruised right front foot. However, he has not worked since then. In fact, Jaycito has not worked since April 2, and has not raced since March 12, when he finished a distant second in the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita in his only start of this year. Jaycito has had only two works since the San Felipe.

KENTUCKY DERBY NEWS: Track all the 3-year-olds on the Triple Crown trail (http://www.drf.com/news/kentucky-derby)

Jaycito originally had been scheduled to travel to Kentucky on Tuesday, but that has been delayed until at least Thursday. Bob Baffert, his trainer, on Tuesday said he would “make the call” on Wednesday regarding Jaycito’s participation in the Lexington.

However, Baffert already has told Martin Garcia, Jaycito’s rider, to be at Hollywood Park on Saturday, rather than Keeneland.

Jaycito currently has $250,000 in graded stakes earnings (http://www.drf.com/news/2011-kentucky-derby-contenders-ranked-graded-earnings), which puts him in the field for the May 7 Kentucky Derby. But should Jaycito not make the Derby, that would open another spot on the graded stakes earnings list, and there are several others currently in the top 20 whose status is not solidified, including J P’s Gusto, The Factor, Watch Me Go, and even Uncle Mo.

Because of all that uncertainty, the connections of Anthony’s Cross have re-evaluated their position on the Derby. Anthony’s Cross had been dropped from Derby consideration after finishing fifth in the Santa Anita Derby. But on Tuesday, his trainer, Eoin Harty, said Anthony’s Cross “will run in the Derby if he gets in.”

“I can’t eliminate him off one bad race,” Harty said. “He likes Churchill Downs. If you are ever going to take a shot, this is the year. He’ll have two more works for the Derby and be trained accordingly.”

Anthony’s Cross has $182,000 in graded stakes earnings.

The Derby field is limited to 20 runners. If more than 20 enter, as seems certain this year, the field is determined by earnings in graded stakes races.

shocked if he runs this weekend or in the Derby.

Time to move on,this horse has some issues,Baffert should just say he aint running in the Derby.Ntamm you called it,i recieved a call from a friend stating last night it was a go and it was likely he would work Wednesday. Now the story has changed.

He's just too far behind on conditioning at this point to be considered for the Derby.
I bet him in the BC Juvy and was interested in him as a Derby prospect last fall. Sadly, like many, he has some physical issues and should be taken off the trail.

I followed him last year as well betting him the BC but he has failed to return to his pre-BC form. At this point it seems impossible to consider J in any Derby betting strategy.

I heard from a credible source of mine at Santa Anita that Jaycito is fine. I heard that Baffert loved Midnight Interlude for 1 1/4 so much he wanted Jaycito out of the race to clear the path for him to get the earnings. I posted this information prior to the SA Derby.

Jaycito was not among the six 3-year-olds entered to run Saturday at Keeneland in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes, but trainer Bob Baffert said he is hopeful the colt still will be able to run in the 137th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

“He just wasn’t quite ready for this,” Baffert said Wednesday morning from California. “We are still pointing for the Derby, though.”

Mr. Insider? Do you mean Mr. Commons? The horse I thought I had a chance to move forward off his last win and have a shot to win the SA Derby? Does handicapping a race and selecting a horse based on that handicapping mean I've fallen in love with him?

Or Midnight Interlude, a horse that I was told (by what you like to call an "insider") was working like a monster leading into the Derby?

Proven totally wrong on what? That Baffert no longer was as high on Jaycito as he was perhaps a month ago. That Baffert, after watching this pig come up so weak in the San Felipe (despite a perfect pace), decided he didn't like his Derby chances anymore?

Which is it?

That's good...never get discouraged!! Once that thing heals up, he'll get back to serious training and he'll be good to go...ya won't need futures for the belmont...that's where they'll be pointing him to and you can probably lay bets that he'll go off long odds:jump:

Baffert had already sent out his Santa Anita Derby winner Midnight Interlude to breeze six furlongs in 1:13.51 in company with stablemate Mythical Power. Midnight Interlude (http://www.drf.com/news/midnight-interlude) broke off a length behind Mythical Power at the five furlong pole, pulled even at the quarter pole after going three-eighths in 36.46, but could not get past his partner through the stretch and around the turn, dropping about a half-length behind at the wire and more than a length back when completing his work at the seven-furlong marker. Midnight Interlude galloped out seven-eighths in 1:27.22.

Couldnt get past Myhtical Power 3/8 in 36.46,how much did the SA DERBY take out of the horse.I put the kiss of death on Bafferts Horses.
Im starting to think this may be MTB all over again,i dont think Dial In could win,do you throw out Soldats last race?,AAA everyones now horse maybe overbet unless your Dahoss and Pell Mell who had future bets on the horse.Interesting.

Another report:

Midnight Interlude - This colt looked very strong galloping over the CH strip today and the down pour didn't effect him in any manner. This one has come out of the SA Derby looking stronger each and everyday he has been at CH. Relished the slop in a big way today.

Glad you caught this work, Casino...I saw your first post about MI's work with Mythical Power...but the colt worked great...I think he's just coming into himself and expect to see him shake things up a bit this year...as for the derby...hell, why not:)
