Claire Novak is reporting that A.P. Indy has been pensioned due to testicular degeneration. He's still in relatively good health for a 22 year old.

This makes me very sad--though happy he is in good health.

I was a fan of his as a racehorse and as a stallion. He always ran with his
head really low-I sometimes see his offspring do the same.

Growing up in the 1970s, I was a huge fan of the Bold Ruler sire line.
His line took 7 of the 10 Ky Derbys in the 1970s. For all of the good/great horses he sired he got down to one to carry on the line: Seattle Slew.
Slew did the same--he sired many good/great horses but got down to one to carry on the line: A.P. Indy.

"A.P." has sired several good sons to keep it going--which is great!!
Unlike a lot of sires, he sired "classic" runners who got better with age and distance.

Oh well, at least I hope I can continue to go visit him at Lane's End.

I hope he lives to be 50.

I wonder if his being a ridgling had anything to do with it?

A gifted racehorse but maybe an even better sire? Whatever, A.P. Indy is "Thoroughbred Royalty" and I hope he lives out his days in well-deserved luxurious Bluegrass pastures.
