Excerpt:

Why TVG pushes its viewers toward complicated, multi-race bets is an interesting question. Perhaps it’s to satisfy a “lottery” mentality that some racing newcomers have, allowing them an outside chance at a huge payoff for a relatively modest wager. Betting $20 on a 3-1 shot might not cut it for them. Or perhaps it’s the margins: takeout is highest on most multi-race bets, leaving TVG more profits than it makes on a straight wager.

HRTV’s philosophy of providing more background about the horses and less opinion about who to bet suits me. My guess is HRTV has fewer newcomers and more experienced horseplayers watching. Viewers are more interested in learning about the horses than the on-air talent’s picks in a particular race. The HRTV hosts seem to think the horses are the show, while at TVG the talent often thinks they are the show. I don’t have a problem with that. If it works for TVG, that’s fine. Nothing wrong with a little entertainment.

The truth is that TVG has busted out more potential long term Horseplayers than anyone else in the history of Horse Racing. Asking new viewers to "send it in" on their so called Experts/Carnival Barkers pick 4 tickest that cost up to $120 is irresponsible.

On a side note I do believe that some of their people do a great job. They have to realize that if they want to develop long term customers of Horse Racing they need to stop busting them out before they have a chance to learn the game.

Jeff Siegel is certainly a cut above any of the others on either station. He is the only one I ever watch as I watch the races on RTN.

In Canada HPITV got rid of their talking head simulcast announcers about a year and a half ago and just use the feeds from individual tracks they are covering time permitting.
They do have their own analysts for their own products still.

I have to say, NYRA does a great job for the serious player out of all the simulcast broadcasts I've seen.

Neither channel is wroth a crap.
The mute button is mandatory with either one.
I see no reason why either one needs any on-air personalities.

The Confidential (http://theracingnews.blogspot.com/2011/03/is-tvg-intentionally-boycotting-certain.html): Is TVG intentionally boycotting certain tracks? (http://theracingnews.blogspot.com/2011/03/is-tvg-intentionally-boycotting-certain.html)

"More than a few posters said they could care less who was on the air and what horses Baedeker and Kotulak or any on-air host likes, as long as their mute buttons worked. All these hard-core players want is the track feed, showing odds, post parade, and the live race.

"

This quote from the PR Report pretty much sums up my feeling on the subject. Sorry that anyone lost their job regardless of where they were employed. TVG does not broadcast GP or Oak. so mostly I am HRTV.

let me tell you what hrtv just pulled.

I'm watching HRTV waiting for the first at gulfstream. I liked the 2 horse. it said 4 MTP. I get ready to wager, only to login to my xpressbet account to find that it's 19 mintues to the 2nd post. the 1st ,was ran 8 minutes ago apparently. that, makes me mad to no end.

it's complicated. i was cooking lunch and was looking at the feed from hrtv to inform me how much longer i had until gulfstream.

to make matters worse, they did to show a race the whole first hour, yet still manage to miss the first live race of the day. And not only that, they lied about it being live. that is what really peeved me off.

I don't have HRTV because i dont have dish network, so, i'm kinda forced to watch TVG. Unfortunately, TVG doesnt carry any 'real' tracks, so, i'm sorta screwed.

One good thing about TVG is they actually show racing on Tuesdays and also during the nights.

I switched provider services in January and so for the first time I have both channels. I am not impressed with either one although I do seem to prefer HRTV over TVG for the tracks carried. And yes, the mute button comes in handy with some of the chatter I don't need or want. I am glad though that we do have the racing racing channels. They can improve and it is better than nothing and now that I have them I much prefer watching the races on there when betting on line than on the computer as before.

Since I have Dish, it depends on the time of year & what tracks I want to see that determines if either TVG or HRTV exists.

Yes, I'm sure a lot of hardcore horseplayers rushed to bet those $0.50 Pick 4s for $15 and ended up in the gutter.

I know you and Stillriledup have to post gibberish 50 times a day or you feel bad, but c'mon...can't you do better?

Good answer Tom.I don't know how anybody listens to them anyway, even without the mute button. If you're looking at the form and have 2 screens up on the computer you hear nothing the TV is saying. Some of the geriatrics need this to feast upon though. It keeps the blood up I guess!

i like to listen to the ex and current trainers and jocks on hrtv...I have no use for anyone on tvg they are no more than handicappers with less experience then myself! The people who play their picks are the same people who probably buy the red yellow and green tip sheets at the entrances to various tracks!(remember them)....Siegel is very knowledgeable IMHO...

They are going to have to pay for their tip sheets now that Mr B is no longer on the payroll.
