The [Maryland Jockey Club] has just announced that advertising for this year's race, scheduled for May 21 at Pimlico, will feature Kegasus (http://www.theinfieldfest.com/).

The character, hailed as "Lord and Protector of Infieldfest," is a beer-gutted dirtball with four legs and a tail and, judging by the tapped keg that Kegasus keeps in his stall, an obvious problem with booze.

And exactly who else is anticipated to be in the infield? This is a thing not intended for us.

The only way this would be even somewhat cool is if they talked a guy into dressing up in this and walking around the infield

What escapee from a mental institution do they have dreaming up these things ?
They weren't satisfied with the now-defunct "Slider" bet which was harder to hot than the Powerball lottery.
Now they sunk to a new low.
I wonder what Chick Lang & Jim McKay would think ? :faint:

you know what they should have did, they should have given him instead of the hair, they should have given him like one of those old gladiator helmets, but also have make it a beer hat with the two beers on the side and the straw to the mouth.

Shouldn't a Kegasus have wings like Pegasus? Half horse & half man is a Centour (prob'ly spelled that wrong:blush: )...I mean, $hit, they could at least get their mythical critters right :bang: :)

Another disgraceful way of displaying the city of Baltimore. The ridiculous thing is that keg and coolers are no longer allowed in the infield unless the rule has been changed AGAIN.

Isn't it strange how a loss of attendance and the accompanying revenue can lead to changes in one's marketing philosophy.

This race track and the people running it are a joke.

Sure this is stupid, but to everyone who complains that racing doesn't appeal to the college-age gambler (over 21 of course, haha), well, here you go, going for what they are into.

Now we have kegasus gate

This is really going to cruden the experience on the infield at Pimlico on Preakness Day. People screwing in port-a-johns is one thing, but a shirtless frat boy drinking heavily? Can't have that.

Haven't we all been whining about attracting a new breed of horse racing fan?

Well, here it is:

10 cent mega-tri-superfecta whatevers and Kegasus.

Now, if we could get Dale Jr. and the 88 car to run a Kentucky Derby winner match race all our problems would be solved.

I gotta agree with you on this one. Who in their right mind?

Spuds MacKenzie, anyone? Joe Camel? This idea is going to draw fire under the "appealing to underage yoots" rubric. He's a hard drinking party animal who's hung like a horse.

Yes, by appealing to the lowest common denominator.

This is dorm room garbage, not what racing needs to do to appeal to the younger crowd.

This race track and the people running it are a joke. Was it last year that their slogan was "Get your preak on"? Those MD folks are just full of them. Looks like they want the Preakness to be the blue collar, low class TC event. I can't imagine something like this coming from CD or Belmont.

Really? Seen the infield page for the Derby?

Kegasus is so stupid it's actually kinda funny. God knows I can't party like that any more, if I ever could, but what the hell. They're being completely honest about the product. A bunch of kids will come and party hard in a contained area. A few of them will get bored of it and may even notice there's some races going on that are kind of neat. They might even come back on a quieter day to check this out again. I got no problem with it.

Does this really makes me want to go to the Preakness... NOT REALLY!! Looks more like half BillyBob & half Jackass to me. Maybe they'll start body painting the horses with Budweiser... Heineken's and such. How long before we have another drunken idiot on the track trying to punch.. tackle or whatever a horse with a band of more idiots filming it for youtube.

Now that's what you would call an interesting paddock inspection.

The infield Preakness day has been about hot chicks and beer for at least 25 yrs now. So why is this a big deal? These kids come once a yr for a party, not to bet on horses. The crime is Pimlico makes them buy their beer now instead of being able to bring their own.
