I know, i'll get the 'must be a slow day' comment, but how many times can you read, over and over, about Maylan Studart?

I want to create a reality show, 5 'horseplayers' living in a house (lets say at Saratoga in the summer) and the cameras follow them around, sort of like Jersey shore, but better.

Tell me which 5 people in racing would you want to be in this 'group'. Remember, its a reality show so the more interesting character, the better.

You can pick anyone you want who is involved in horse racing in any capacity, even people who are just fans.

Andy Beyer and any other 4 guys. Got to be Andy!

you can catch this act EVERYDAY on 1 or 2 picnic tables right near the "red spring" out back. the matties crew...they even bring their own remote control devices to change the track monitors to tracks they're betting on a given day.

one of the few "damon runyon" groups left standing. the little guy has been known to make an appearance on his way to ciros. duke, chick, ogre, the battler, ticket bob just a few you'll find. it's like the WWE.

(And, yeah Dick Schmidt happens to be my personal idol, but who the hell would argue with the inclusion...)

We'll want a fair fight, no hitting below the belt unless the victim is at least mildly suspected of having future political ambitions to any degree, of any kind, in any context whatsoever and/or is wearing what could possibly pass for a velvet bathrobe when seen through a severe case of cataracts, and we will fully be expecting stimulating and "colorful", informative, and ongoing "discussion" of a wide range of topics which must (but obviously inevitably will anyway) include the following: origami, Budweiser, Shakespeare, Nascar, Madagascar, sun-dried tortellini, and whether or not a person deserves capital punishment for never having seen "Stardust Memories".

One of the best "CHARACTERS" was Jack Klugman. You would never know that he wasn't in character as Oscar Madison at the track. He's still kickin by the way.

Good for him.

Barry Abrams and Madeline Aurbach gave him a piece of a couple of their horses out of respect.

Hat's off to them for what they did. Talk about class?

Good for him.Saw him at Arlington Park's winners circle some years ago...great guy.

The entire crowd has chanting..."Oscar...Oscar..."

His horse's name was Jacklyn Klugman, by the way...and finished 3rd in the 1980 Kentucky Derby.

Was named Jackalyn Klugman and yes it was a male.
Jack said the slow to arrive paper work had been filled out with the female name so he left it that way. One of my all time favorite owners. Loves the sport.

A California-bred, Pretty Unusual raced for Madeline Auerbach, Marie Goda, and Jack Klugman , and was trained by Barry Abrams. Pretty Unusual defeated champion Stardom Bound in the El Encino Stakes (gr. II) in January and finished three lengths behind champion Zenyatta while fifth in the Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (gr. I) in March.

How about Dr, Kildare?

In the old day I remember listening to KNX for the stretch calls. They were usually at 15 minutes past the hour and 15 minutes till the hour.

One day they come on and say we have good news and bad news.

The good news is that Vince Edwards hit the pick 6 for such and such amount. The bad news is that he broke even for the day.

MikeA, now, since I don't know you, and in your best Boston accent you're trying, I believe, to say, . . . "well, I nevah". . . I can't really tell whether you're extending an invitation or giving me a back handed slap? Yes, I'm a Southerner, but I don't like Budweiser or Nascar. Shakespeare puts me to sleep. Politics and the death penalty are too volatile, both lead to tawdry behavior. I've never done origami in my life, nor do I intend to start. Still, its lovely and I can easily appreciate those with such unique talent.

I think the original premise of this thread was "roomies" as in all under one roof, renting for a week or two. I'm just one of the guys so this deal is no stretch for me, I've been awarded the biggest room in the "vacation rental" before.

My guests would include: any number of my sharp handicapping buds here at PA along with Andy Beyer, Andy Serling, and Steve Asmussen.

No doubt, it would be a fine week, but who wants Shakespeare when one's got all afternoon at the track (Saratoga, that is) and all night at Saratoga Harness?

And there would be music in the house. Blues, preferrably. Oh, and Crown and water, too. This 'bout covers my week or two or three at Saratoga.

Not sure if Vince would have gotten along with the other 4 guys in this make believe group. He had a bad rep for boorish behavior while at the track. Never actually saw him since he was Turf Club or Clubhouse and I was grandstand, but knew several guys that had, and their reports were not flattering.

Mickey Rooney, Bing Crosby, Bob Baffert, Woody Stephens, and Dennis Hopper. Amusement for days........Makers Mark all around, while scantily clad women serve us shisk-a-bobs with steak and shrimp right off the grill. Grill all week as a matter of fact, as weather is balmy in SoCal, and pool temp is perfectly heated to set beside all night, as piped in music drifts quietly in, we comment on days gone by, and how we did at the track that day..........I will be rooming with the help.
