Lone Star will also introduce the first 10-cent Super Hi-5 bet in the country.
It will be on the last race everyday, if nobody hit it, there will be a carryover to the next day.

I believe Balmoral Park in Chicago (harness racing) offers the dime Penta.

I'm hoping that Evangeline goes for the Dime Pick 6, with their field size and length of their meet till Sept. We'll find out when they open on 4/6.
In any event, I'll be happy to "send it in" at Lone Star on closing day, 7/10.
Hopefully other tracks will start offering this wager as well. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Keeneland goes for it. Churchill would be phenomenal, given the length of their meet. Hollywood would be neat as well despite the crummy SoCal field sizes.
You can forget about NYRA offering this wager as long as the current regime is in place. But they could surprise on the dime Super high five, since they do currently offer the dime super.

Much ado about nothing. A couple more gimmick bets is not going to save Lone Star. How much handle will these bets add a day? 10k? 20k? When will horse racing wake up and address the real problems it faces.

The question is not when will horse racing wake up.........It is when will the Texas Legislature approve slots. When they do, which may be sooner rather than later, Lone Star will take off.

Robert,
More negative comments about another racetrack?? What the hell is your agenda??
Don't you find any good in anything that a racetrack does to try and increase their handle.
If you hate the game so much, find another one to play.:):)

David-LVHasting Park, a small track in western Canada took a major step in the right direction. I know they will get some of my money even though their post times are not all that convenient for my schedule.

The problem with Robert's agenda is that he never looks at...or takes any delight in....anything that's good for the player....only what's going to fail to save a racetrack.....or "The Game" as a whole.
Robert, we don't need you to constantly remind us about "what's broken"....it's beyond "old" already.....it's time for a new way for you to view the game on this board instead of ALWAYS being obsessed with the negative elements of it which we don't control.
How 'bout, just once, finding a useful piece of INFORMATION to contribute to this board.

I'm glad to see Lone Star making an effort to entice us horseplayers. The takeout rate is awesome too. I've slowly gotten away from betting Lone Star the past few years. I've had some really nice scores there in days gone by, so maybe I'll tune in more often this year.

And another change to their wagering options is:
"Also new on the wagering menu for the 2011 Thoroughbred season, 50-cent rolling Pick 3s, previously offered as a $2 wager." :jump:
Being that LSP is my home track I'll definitely be supporting it. I've always had good success there! I'm excited about the new wagering options.

RRThe takeout rate on one pool is awesome. The takeout rate on the other pools is highway robbery. Check out CD's or the new Hasting Park's rates and compare them to Lonestar's. I view this as an attempt to say they are doing something when they really aren't. If you want to see a track that is doing something check out the thread on Hasting Park. What LS is doing really pales in comparison.

I suggest you do some research into what it took, just to get horse racing back in this state. The government and racing board had a huge influence on takeout at all Texas tracks, so don't blame it all on the tracks. As Texans, we're just glad we have tracks to go to, we battled Bible thumpers for years to get this done.

I know all about battling Bible thumpers. We have plenty of them in Nebraska. That being said, horse racing is still a business. It still has to do things that attract customers. A new gimmick bet is not going to do that in any great numbers. I would like to believe that the horsemen's groups are fighting as hard to get takeout rates reduced as they are to get slots at the tracks, but we all know that is not the case. Race tracks and horsemen groups(not only in Texas) are giving only lip service to attracting customers, but are working hard to get outside sources of revenue(mainly slots) in to the sport. That is not good for the long term health of the sport.

Al....
Good point about the takeout. I for one only plan on playing the dime pick 6 on closing day, if there's a large carryover in place, regardless of which track offers it. I would advise everyone on this board to do the same.

Tracks here don't have the option for slots.
