At Yonkers tonight. Now how can this give anyone incentive to bet. Trust me I'll still be betting, but I will decrease my wagering when he is involved. Last week (Thurs.) he was very hot and they were all getting bet. My angle is too watch the money and go from there.

For all who are betting Yonkers tonight, keep in mind that because of the series, the races are at a mile. Plus there are some horses that appear to be stand outs, but I would not bet an odds-on favorite outside of post 5 in the one mile races.

What was the horsemans' stand when Eric Ledford came back and the same people he was stealing from a few years earlier started putting him back on horses? Welcome back buddy! We forgive ya!

The problem with Pena goes deeper than himself. The ownership group, Lightning Lane Stable, seems to always be involved with the latest, greatest 30% trainer and most of them end up with a laundry list of suspensions and violations.

I've read elsewhere that Pena applied to race to Dover and was told no thanks? Which would explain why Lightning Lane has horses with Johnny Waite ( another souper trainer ) in DE. Anyone know for certain?

And what if any is the relationship between Nick Surick, KDM Stables and Pena? KDM transfered horses from Lou to Nick and he seems to be the only guy that is able to keep'em going like Lou. Tony Alagna got horses from JLB or JBL stables after Lou put'em through their paces and he couldn't train'em to drink water.

Does anyone know exactly what tracks Pena is banned from. I see Dover mentioned and I believe he is also banned from Tioga Downs. I'm at the point where I just about refuse to bet any race with one of his horses in it. Especially in the last week. I think others should start to do the same and try too focus their wagering dollar on tracks that he is not racing at. I will be making an extra effort to play Tioga this year.

Yonkers is a snoozefest. First or second choice won 11 out of 13 and only one horse paid over $10.

That was an unusually poor card for a Saturday last night, due to the series, and of course many races at a mile because of the series. Most Saturday cards at Yonkers have been much tougher to handicap.

As for Pena, I don't know how any owner could race against him and the Lightning Lane Stable. If I owned horses I would find it infuriating. The Lightning Lane Stable is a black mark on the sport, for sure.

Not4Love---You might try Monticello. It's a "Pena free-zone". :) Your idea of Tioga is a very good one. They should be even better this year. Hope they get more pic3 bets there. :) Also N4L Northfield is lowering the takeout to 14% on all pic bets. You are also right about Dover/Harrington. No Pena horses.

I bet Monticello almost every day. It's the least speed favoring half mile track and almost a throw back to the gold old days because the outside flow is much better so at the half it is often 4 in 4 out, the way it should be.

When the Meadowlands closes I'm going to do picks for either Yonkers or Northfield on the USTA site, we may take a poll to see which track people would prefer me to do.

I don't think Dover is the place to go to get away from 30%+ trainers.

Green Josh 31.5%
Scott Jr Eli 29.8%
Bier Daryl 26.4%
Glassmeyer A Bobby 38.0%
Davis Dylan 24% - Was higher for awhile.
Foulk Trish 24%
Horsey Michael 22% - he was winning at 30% earlier in the meet.

And Johnny Waite was/is above 30% ( or atleast close ) racing horses for Pena's biggest client, Lightning Lane. Nick Surick is down there with Pena outcast for KDM stables. Art Brewer was winning at a big clip for a few months earlier.

So Dover has no shortage of "winning" trainers. You have two or three and possibly four winning at or above Pena range.

Just a note. Pena was 0 for 4 today at Chester.

And he was in the grandstand and casino roaming around while the horses were warming up and in the paddock.

Good news indeed.
Hopefully for us, his stable is beginning to crash. Unfortunatly now, the horses will feel the dreadful after effects.I fear, that he may know he won't be able to get away with the same prerace, or the actual dosages of prerace, that he uses here in New York.Only time will tell, let's keep our fingers crossed.

I just found out that starting Friday, April 1, after the Meadowlands closes, my picks on the USTA SITE (www.ustrotting.com) will be Northfield Friday, Yonkers Saturday, and Balmoral Sunday.

One thing I'll say about Pena. Of all the trainers I've ever seen, both in thoroughbred and harness racing, who put up these suspiciously high win percentages, Pena is the only one whose horses seem to be able to stay sound for a length of time. He has even claimed horses, done well with them, stopped, then brought them back a few months later and won more races with them. This is very unusual. Most trainers who have had a lot of positives and we know are cheating do well with a horse off a claim but then the horse disappears completely or drops down to a very low level and looks terrible on the track. If Pena is giving these horses something illegal, it is something that not only improves their performance, but doesn't seem to damage them. This is amazing and unusual.

Using Oscar Barrera as a reference, his horses did great for a while then went lame.

These tracks, Balmoral, Northfield, and Yonkers, are all part of the USTA sponsored promotion for guaranteed pick 4 pools.
