This idiot deserved it!

Gilbert Gottfried has been fired as the voice of the Aflac duck for tweeting jokes about the earthquake in Japan.

(Also, Gottfried apparently has been the voice of the duck for almost 11 years. Who knew?)

"Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac,” Aflac senior vice president and chief marketing officer Michael Zuna said. “Aflac Japan – and, by extension, Japan itself – is part of the Aflac family, and there is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times.”

A nationwide casting call is on for a new duck, which may not be that difficult since an Aflac rep said many people -- not just us -- had no idea he was the voice in the first place.

"It should be noted," Aflac added in a statement, "that Gilbert Gottfried is not the voice of the Aflac Duck in Japan."

Here's a link to a story about the change, and what Gilbet Gottfried tweeted. This is in line with his usual sense of humor, but sometimes he makes a joke a bit too soon after a tragic incident. He made a joke at the taping of the Hugh Hefner Roast for Comedy Central related to 9/11 within a week after 9/11, and got the crowd upset, upon which he switched to his classic telling of his version of The Aristocrats joke, his and Bob Sagets versions have to be the most wildly obnoxious (and therefore, if one doesn't take it seriously,)it it is considered by many as the ultimate in "vulgar farce funny" - check YouTube if you're up to it.) Since he's done far worse for jokes out in the world while employed by Aflacc, I'm a bit surprised that this did him in.

Okay, in the spirit & style of timely jokes when others have suffered a loss:

What should you get Gilbert Gottfried for his birthday?

---- A Flak Jacket!

Uh oh. Here comes an alliteration:

Gilbert Gottfried got fired.

So, how long do I need to wait until I tell my other joke I wrote, about rescue workers being relived that one washed out builiding and pile of bodies was just the leftover mess when the silicon sex doll warehouse flooded?

AS a comedian, Gottfried should know timing is everything. It is just too soon yet.

I agree with ya there Ralph.....

Aflac wasnt paying attention either if they didnt think that Gottfried was going to say things like this when they initially hired him.......he bases his act largely on tasteless, offensive humor, often after tragedies (soon after 9/11, to name one).

Seems disingenuous of them to look the other way when he routinely insulted anyone and everyone in an offensive way and then to take action when it is correlated with their business, which I read is about 75 percent located in Japan.

Charlie Sheen is taking over the voice of the duck.

Duh, winning!
