2 Second Allowance??????

Over at Harness Eye I noticed a comment in the Qualifying Section. On Jan. 22nd. at the Big M a two second Qualifying allowance was made. Can someone please explain what this means??????

To Qualify for the races your horse needs to show a mile without a break in less than 2:10 (at least that was what it was in the Eighties:)), babies (2 yo) get a 2 second allowance 3 yo get a 1 second allowance.

Seems silly in this day of age where 2 yos go in 1:49-1 (BigJim) but that's how it is.

Ray is correct, also remember that an allowance of time is also given when the weather conditions are not ideal.A true off track will almost always give the horses additional time to qualify, in so they can have a fair chance to make time and drop in for a future betting event.
