I have to admit, of the past two races I have seen Golden Ballet run, I have not been impressed. Eventhough she won the Santa Anita Oaks two back over Flute, I didn't like the way she refused to change leads when she should have, throwing her head high in the air at the top of the lane and going along with the wrong lead.
Again on Saturday, in the Ashland, she did not change leads until inside the eighth pole, meanwhile Fleet Renee powered up and motored past for a convincing upset win. As other fillies mature, if Golden Ballet's problem is not corrected, others will get the jump on her and she'll have a tough time coming back at them. Hopefully she'll mature and figure out how to correctly change leads.
I wish I had seen her prior races to know if this has been a career problem, or if it's just something of late. Does anyone know?
