The Tampa Bay Derby: Who do you like?

I'm taking Brethren over Free Entry in the exacta.

{Which leaves the third leg of a trifecta wide open, but I haven't gotten that far. Maybe Nafzger's, but I'd have to look again.}

Brethren looks like the goods won for fun from outside post. Too Experience ran big in same race and has followed with three excellent works, one in :59 2/5 breezing - make him the main contender. Free Entry is racing well but has not been on TB surface, nor around 2-turns and will have pressure on front, if Garcia decides to go for early lead - suspect to finish ITM. Beamer will be moving late, but no reason to think that he can upset top two - likely to fill 3-4 slot.

Last year's rendition was a super race. Whatever happened to the winner, Odysseus.

Sorry to learn of his passing. That was one gut-wrenching comeback win in TB Derby.

Good point; I missed the not having went two turns.

I put alot of stock into a horses prep races, and I must say I love the path pletcher has laid out for breathern. I like getting that much time in over that deep surface. Pretty sure he's going to come out of this and go to the Arkansas derby then to KY. he might not win, but the horse will have no problem with 10F come may. I can't say that for 75% of the other horses.

I'm not impressed with anybody in this race. The only horse I can even think about playing is Beamer. I think you will see considerably more speed in here than the Sam F Davis. Maybe Brethren gets too caught up in it. Maybe.

I think it's chicken $hit not to run Uncle Mo in this one, but, oh well...they want a paid work, they're gettin' it....or, maybe Pletcher is affraid Brethren might beat Mo?

I'm picking Brethren to win this, despite what may be a fast pace, he's one of my top Derby horses, so gotta keep the faith:) ...I'll use Striding Ahead for place, Beamer for show...

Jonied, you have that backwards. If Mo would beat Brethren he could knock him out of the derby. That's why there was no way these two would meet.

Hmmm..good point, Pell Mell...hadn't thought of it that way...and one thing for sure, Brethren belongs in the Derby...although, if Mo beat Brethren, but Brethren ran really well, getting part of it, he'd still go to the Derby...so, maybe it works both ways:)

I can't wait 'til race time:jump:
