Churchill Downs Inc. and Daily Racing Form are at odds over the publishing company’s launch of an advance deposit wagering system powered by XpressBet.com, which is owned by CDI rival MI Developments.

CDI racetracks aren’t available for wagering through DRFBets.com, which launched in January. CDI operates the TwinSpires.com, the largest ADW system in the country after its purchase of Youbet.com.

CDI vice president of corporate communications Julie Koenig Loignon in late February said the situation stemmed from Daily Racing Form’s entry into the wagering business. And using Stronach's XpressBet, no less. (Gee I wonder whose idea that was.)

Sounds like it's on to me. This could be a war.

You must have missed the original post on March 3 albeit in a different section referring to the same story. I was surprised it did not elicit more reaction at the time, but I guess people are just jaded about this sort of stuff now.

Saw this on another board:

Subject: CDI v DRF

What is not mentioned is the legality of the move by XpressBet to use their platform for the DRFbets operation. In PA, which the XpressBet is licensed, they are required to be a owner of a track running in Pa. They since changed the law to permit a contractor of services to a currently licensed track to be licensed. In this case, DRF has no such contract with the state and the Pennsylvania treasury is not getting any proceeds from this agreement.

I have since notified my state senator who in turn passed this info onto the Agricultural committees in both the house and senate. He also sent a notice to the both racing commissions (flat and harness). CDI v DRF will be getting more complicated once PA legislature and the Pa racing commissions investigate.
