Going back to your last KY Derby winner. Some good ones in there and winners of other TC races. Got to believe a healthy I Want Revenge might have amde a little noise as a 3yo. Big detraction for in at least in the early 2000's is that it was still a 1 turn mile on the Aqueduct main track. Most players aren't looking for that kind of race in March these days. I'm going, so I hope the weather is good!

Easy Goer was one of best in the Gotham since Secretariat and favored in the KD but ran into a off track and Sunday Silence. With a little luck the Gotham could have produced some more KD winners. I'm guessing Tom Durkin will be back to call the races this Saturday. Let us know how the construction on the casino is going.... no rain predicted till Sunday.

I can tell you that from what I understand, the construction of the casino is going well, and if you were watching the news, you may have seen the story about how the horse population was moved to Belmont. This is so the workers can speed up the schedule as the noise and work would have potentially bothered the animals, especially during training. Good chance they are on or even ahead of schedule.

I think Durkin comes back when the main track opens up. I can't link it on The iPad but look up the 1992 Gotham with Lure and Devil His Due. That was one he'll of a race. I'll be there as well so I hope it's a nice day.

Great call, I think the two of them went :43 and change and dueled for most of the race. Lure got knocked off stride in the stretch by the Devil, but never would give in. As good a battle as the '89 Preakness with the aforementioned Easy Goer and Sunday Silence.

I'll be there. I love the Gotham. Usually one of the top five races of the year on the NYRA calendar (my opinion). Plus, I want to check out the progress of the casino.

Al,
Thank you for this list.
This race meant so much more when the Bay Shore was the launching pad, followed with Gotham, then Wood.

A funny story for me, in relation to this race. I remember being at Aqueduct when a dear friend loved Mogambo in this race. All day long he would say Mo-Yam-Bo. He actually sounded like Desi Arnez. Seriously. I'm laughing to myself as I write this. Well, guess what, he was right. And he cashed a nice ticket.

Very nice season debut for Stay Thirsty. He won in a long drive into a stiff headwind.

But, until today, he was not a Graded stakes winner either.

More of a cross wind really if you were lining up how they were landing the jumbo jets that kept roaring overhead.

This was a lousy race IMO. I had a little hope for the 2 that scratched out (the 9 in particular) to do something, but when they went it wasn't only a bad race, it wasn't even really all that playable. I expect nothing from this lot this year.

As for the construction, the apron in front of the grandstand is all torn up and chunks of the grandstand have clearly been removed, Long way to go yet.

I know, Al. I had a hard time keeping my Form from blowing away. Stay Thirsty looked a little rank early and had a wide trip. It was still a tough wind to come home to and he still has plenty of upside being by Bernardini. At least there's more construction going on now than the last time I was there. It's an encouraging sight.

I thought a long shot for sure today, still it was a nice performance for Stay Thirsty who had good acceleration in the last 16th.

Not even close. Big 89 Beyer fig for that one which is one whole point better than the winner of that great Derby prep the Battaglia Memorial. Of course his acceleration looked good. It better be when you do a mile in 1:38.1. But then they still couldn't go sub 6 seconds for that last sixteenth. None of these even belong in the Derby, though sure we will have Stay Thirsty coming in somewhere around 16th.

Thanks for the construction photo...I looked at all you have on that page, OTM...what a mess!! I hope it's going to be worth it...to have the casino at the Big A.

The Gotham was not a pretty race, slow time and just not impressive, except Stay Thirsty's last 16th...but, I still like Stay Thirsty and although none of the other horses in the Gotham should go to the Derby, I beleive Stay Thirsty does belong...he's getting better, can easily go the distance, including the Belmont, and he's been putting in faster works than Uncle Mo. He's still on my early Derby list.
