Monotheism began in Egypt? Yes, it began with the reign of the "heretic" Pharaoh Akhnaten. Learn how he attempted to change the beliefs of his time in religion, politics, and art; the dire consequences of his actions; and, after his death, how his successor, King Tutankhamun, returned Egypt to its traditional ways. Why did Egypt move back from the advances of Akhnaten and follow the "boy" King? Find out the answer and more at this afternoon's lecture given by faculty and graduate students of UCLA Egyptology.

Want to meet "the most powerful composer of our time"? Philip Glass will discuss the West Coast Premiere of his spectacular opera Akhnaten with Andreas Mitisek, along with excerpts performed by singers from LBO's cast. Akhnaten completes the trilogy of portrait operas which began with Einstein on the Beach and continued with Satyagraha. Einstein- the man of science; Gandhi- the man of politics; Akhnaten- the man of religion.

Q & A with the audience will follow.


Having been to events where the movie is screened while a live emsemble plays the accomanying music is wonder experience.

many years ago I caught a screening of Koyannisqatsi where he did the score live with his ensemble. that was cool.
