Found out about this on TechTV and thought some of you might like to take a look.

Skype will change your life and beef up your pocketbook. Created by the same folks who brought you KaZaA, this free program allows you to use your computer to voice-connect to anyone, anywhere in the world, without paying long-distance fees.

Skype uses P2P technology to allow users to connect to each other. For it to work properly, both parties need to install the software, and your PC needs to meet some minimum system requirements.

Windows 2000 or WinXP
400-MHz processor
128MB RAM
10MB free disk space on your hard drive
Dial-up Internet connection (minimum 33.6 Kbps modem)
Working sound card
Microphone
Speakers/ headphones

Once installed, the software looks a lot like KaZaA or an instant messaging program. You add buddies, assign contact information to them, and call them at will.

Skype claims to work through all firewalls and encrypts conversations to ensure your privacy. It also promises to give you better sound quality than a phone ever would. But keep in mind that Skype's still in beta. It will fix bugs release updates regularly.
