Even if the online gambling bill passes (which I seriously doubt)...the online poker players still have nothing to cheer about.

I read the poker related part of the bill on the internet, a few months ago, and the government sponsored version of the game will be slightly different from the one currently available.

The "rake" will increase to a $5 maximum per pot (it is now a $3 max.)...and an 8% DEPOSIT FEE will be implemented when you fund your account. Not only is there no deposit fee in the internet game now...but some poker sites issue deposit BONUSES to their customers.

the attitude of the government to gambling is that it is for entertainment purposes only. not to be taken seriously as a form of income.
just look at how they treat the people in the stock market. no onerous taxes to discourage investing in that venue.

The attitude of the government toward gambling reflects the attitude of the people not involved in gambling toward it. Gamblers, especially horse players, need to work on their image.

Gambling gains are treated different than Capital Gains for reporting taxes. If you want to claim gambling losses, you need to file Schedule A; gambling winnings are included in adjusted gross income and Capital losses against gains are not.

The only types of gambling governments tend to support are the fair kinds. The ones with low takeout and an honest chance for winning...

Like the lottery.

in new york the lottery and scratch off games have a much higher take out than horseracing. if memory serves me the lottery, somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty percent is taken out of the pot for education and with scratch offs, forget it, it is fifty percent or more.
people that play those games with substantial money don't understand game theory
