Don't usually react to a maiden win - but that was impressive. Clairborne and Stall may have a Derby contender.

According to the connections he is a route horse! :)

According to another thread on here (the THREE YEAR OLD BEYERS thread) Bind got a 105.

1:08 and 4 per the announcer

I gotta think that Bind was the beneficiary of those blistering fractions set by Saracen. Saracen setup a nice time for Bind. Bind looked great, but Saracen did the dirty work.

Btw, Mena on Saracen I think may have hurt that horse for the future. I am going to put him on the watch list......just to see how he comes out of it.

I thought he was a 'wow' also...and he has the pedigree too...but my thinking is they are not going to rush this one to get in the Derby...

he hasn't got any seasoning and hasn't got the earnings...I'd watch him and look for him later during the summer.

Interesting blog entry. They have not had a sub 1:09 at the Fairgrounds since 2005. I think the Beyer came up light.

I hope this guy stays healthy. I agree with you Joanied that they will not rush him. My heart wishes that they would get him in the KD or Preakness, but that is probably not in the best interest of the horse. Though it did not seem to hurt Curlin's long term plans.

Bind vs The Factor, who do you take ? Maybe this summer ?

I disagree with him, but some my find it interesting. I think the colt ran big.

lots of talent.
if he can smoothen up and stretch out he could be top 3yo

Another interesting article - in my 30 some odd years of watching this sport, I cannot recall a more impressive maiden win. The horse ran 1 and 1/4 Rags number on debut.

I just noticed Bind was even money. Somebody obviously like him first out.

“I can’t even offer an opinion on what to expect next because this is something that’s never happened before,” [Len] Friedman [from the Rag Sheets] said. “We form opinions based on patterns and what we’ve seen before, but we’ve never seen this. It’s not unprecedented for a three-year-old to run this kind of number in February, but nobody has done it first-time out before.”

The horse that finished 4th in the Bind maiden race - Red Ace - crushed at the FG today. I don't know what the speed figure was, but he looked good doing it. 1:10:29 final time.

pretty serious numbers pace wise. I am thinking this horse did all the work for Bind.....and I am sticking to it.

The race is clearly a key race. The 4th place finisher and the 3rd place finisher have come back to crush in their next race.

I think Bind would have run that time without those fractions, but we can disagree. We should know in about 15 hours as there is no real speed in this race. If this horse is as special as I think he is, he should win this race by 8-10 without being touched by the whip in the stretch.

Definitely a key race. No telling how good these two might be. Bind impressed me being able to pull up to Saracen so easy after those fast but uncontested fractions. https://secure1.xb-online.quite easy though when askedcom/fe/replay/watch.aspx?xbOsid=918cab79aad5f74d3a413981e5d68703&v=395815

Should be a nice beyer unless the track is playing fast... probably not a distance horse.

cj

The track probably is playing fast, and that is a new distance at Fair Grounds so the track record doesn't mean much...missing it by a fifth even less.

I know - LOL - I have egg on my face, but I did not bet him at 1-9. Still think he's going to be a special horse, but now I understand why Al Stall did not want to rush him. He was a head case up the back stretch, she could not calm him down. Still very talented horse and I don't think distance will be a problem.

Harvey Pack's adage "never bet a short priced horse doing something for the first time" rings true today.

I just now looked up the pedigree of Bind...nice one...AP Indy/Unbridled...he should stretch out just fine!!

cj
03-26-2011, 07:36 PM
He should, but he didn't.

menifee
03-26-2011, 08:27 PM
He should, but he didn't.

Perhaps that was a result of running a sub 23 second quarter with his head full turned and being strangled. I don't know many horses that finish after that experience. He needs to learn a lot.

cj
03-26-2011, 08:30 PM
I agree, but that is a big part of stretching out. I'm just saying breeding is not an exact science as we all know.

No doubt the connections wanted to see if Bind could relax on the backstretch of a route race and he couldn't do that. I also watched the stretch run and Anna couldn't get him to change his lead. Great horse for sprint races 7f and shorter, but could turn into a route horse later on. I would like to see him in the King's Bishop at Saratoga.

toussaud

1. he did not run horrible, he just did not win the race
2. i dont' think this is a pedigree/stamina issue as much as a maturity issue. In hindsight, there is a reason they weren't rushing him into the triple crown. horse could not have been more rank on the backstretch.

Prime Cut isn't exactly a slouch of a horse. Howard nominated him to the La Derby and he appears to have a decent future in my opinion. They were 12 lengths clear of the other 4 horses.

he runs in the 2nd at churchill tomorrowl probably the best 3YO on the card honestly.

it's a shame you can see the talant. he just refuses to relax.

if he isn't going to relax, i would just send him and let him roll.

If he relaxes he wins easily , I think he was edgy last race as well
