Just watched cheap fillies run 6f in 1:12 flat in the 1st race. Then, a decent maiden at The Big M just ripped of 5.5f in 1:02 1/5 in the 2d. This after fractions of 20 4/5 and 43 flat. Either I've just seen Groovy re-incarnated, or this track is rock hard. I'll be watching the next few to see. Broke the track record by 2/5s, though they didn't run this distance very often til the last couple of years.

More than a Handfull of thosed will pop up at The BIG A at sometime or other over the Fall/Winter. Good to keep an eye on them.

Night Racing.

Very rare in the North East. Come to think of it.. I have never physically seen a Horse run after Sundown in my life.

Hang out at Lone Star for a few afternoon cards, that'll break you of the day time habit. :p

If you mean LS, they run nights during the week (Wed?, Thu, Fri) and afternoon on weekends (at least last time I checked.) They are normally dark Mon and Tue ... not sure about Wed.

I cannot wait until your local friend track Sam Houston starts up..

What a super wager with the 12% pick 3 takeout..

Yep, next week.

Bris lists the HOU superfecta at 12% also???? Not sure about that one but I do know that when they halved the take on the pick-3 the handle went up 2.3X)

Is that a rolling pick 3 ?

Spongebob, its a wonderful rolling pick 3... And when I play there, I know I typically only need to nail one pick 3 there and its a profitable night..

(Its not easy as the 12 horse fields can be challenging..)

To get back on track, the Big M did run a daytime card today. Haven't checked the other results yet. That was some fast time today. You can go a whole year and never see a 20 4/5.

Tuesday cards are Run during the day at the meadowlands, and the WED-SATURDAY cards are RUN at night. Monmouth ran longer this year, and the Meadowlands is Running a Shortened Meet this year. I always used to go, and really enjoyed the racing in Jersey, but the past years, the product has scaled down BIG TIME. I think
Chuck Lopez will WIN the riding title this year, as Bravo got hurt again.

I have never Physically seen a horse run a 20 4/5 after Sundown.

Aside from GG , I don't think I have ever seen a 20 4/5 opening quarter before. Though I suspect it happens at other billiard tables such as TUP, EMD, BM.

Meadowlands Sprints 10-14-2003
Race Dist RawFig ProjFig Variant
1 6f 79 50 +29
2 5.5f 121 90 +31
3 6f 112 83 +29
5 6f 95 70 +25
7 6f 113 72 +31
9 6f 73 50 +23

Variant of around +28 gives him a Beyer fig of 93. Pace number would be around 103 for the half mile. Real good for a Big M maiden race, but no Groovy. A track this hard can't be good for the horses.

I believe CD yields some sub 21 quarters at 6f...they have a very long runup, races are like 6 1/4 furlongs there.

You guys have short memorys. Remember the Sprint Kona Gold won? Caller One ripped a quarter off in 20 3/5, a half in 41 or 42. Granted, these steeds may be nowhere near as classy as that one was, just a reminder that those quarters aren't non-existant.

Just did a quick check of my records.

Out of 241381 past performance lines, 150 are at 21 or less for the first 2f. 28 of those occur at CD.

I question the accuracy of a few of these entries (a couple LS quarters show sub 20 at a mile ) but I think it serves as a good approximation of how rare a sub 21 sec. quarter is.

Believe it or not, I saw a horse at Woodbine go 20.2 and 40.4.

The horse was a speed demon named Bull Myson (if memory serves); the race was the Shepperton (6f?) and the time was wind-aided.

He collapsed in early stretch and finished last.

This was in the mid-80's. When I saw the quarter time I started waiting for the sonic boom.

I'll by 20.2, but 40 and change, I'd have to see to believe it. Maybe in hurricane like winds!

Bill, how many of those 1/4s are actually less than 21 seconds?

I count 43 right at 21, but most of the data that looks legit is right at 20.8 to 21. (My database is split, some data in truncated fifths and the later stuff in hundredths). Raw data is too much to posthere , I'll ship it to you for your perusal.

Out of that same sample I show about 25 at 43 sec. and under for the half. 18 of them are at 7f at Santa Anita. Fastest is 42.11 with the rest 42.5 and above.
