XP SP3
Some of my sounds don't play anymore - Windows start & shutdown. Two that do are OE new mail & download complete. They are all playable from control panel/sounds. All media play fine.
Put new Soundmax driver in & went as far back as I could with sys restore.
Help please!

In Start/ Control Panel/ Sounds (or whatever XP has)

You can add any sound to the events listed and test them. Did you remember to click Apply?

You also have a button to return to Windows defaults.
These are all Windows sounds so if the card can play them in the test then Windows should play them in -running.

I do not have a "default" button. But thanks.

Not a button, but try choosing the Windows Default option from the Sound Scheme list found on the Sounds tab and see if that helps.

You could be one of the few people that want a start-up and shut-down sound. Normally when I get a new system that is on my short list to kibosh.

headhawk may be on to something. The driver may have changed your defaults.

My startup sound is "call to post".

Problem solved by new bios installation.

Problem solved by new bios installation.

really? did you re-flash it or change the chip? I haven't done one of these for years, but I am assuming all bios chips are now soldered on the boards and you flashed it......... and this fixed it ?

Intel has an express bios update - it was crisp & clean, no issues for me.
