Designs For Future Meadowlands http://i55.tinypic.com/2hi8589.gif Revealed

David Climans of the Toronto-based Climans Green Liang Architects Inc. presented the renderings, which Gural and the SBOANJ wanted to share with the public.

“We are elated that we are moving in this direction and see a light at the end of tunnel,” said Tom Luchento, president of the SBOANJ. “There has been a lot of work to reach this point, and we are optimistic that we are on the right path.”

Really? They can afford this with the state of NJ harness and thoroughbred racing. I thought the Big M was dead?

How large would sports betting be?

Game changer.

Not that large it you had to drive there to place a wager. I was there once when the whole wagering system in the state went down. It was a Saturday and fairly crowed for these times. Without a doubt it was one the craziest things I ever saw. People yelling, screaming, and arguing when they couldn't legally place a bet.

This is all contingent upon Jeff Gural signing a long-term lease
and taking over the Meadowlands Racetrack from the NJSEA.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it happens.
If it doesn't. I can not imagine the horror if the wrecking balls come
and starts work on a casino that Atlantic City not-so-secretly desires.

I wonder how many people the Grandstand will hold...with those fancyass betting facilities inside, just how many folks will be out in the grandstand actually watching live racing...and where's the money gonna come from...can you imagine the price tag on something like this...'they' can't seem to come up with money to fix up the stable areas, but can find the money to build this thing?

I don't understand it either it makes no sense to me. I always use the teletheater it only costs $2 or a small amount of wagering points. While on the weekend it can get sold out they have closed it on Mondays and Tuesdays. Most people who go to the Meadowlands buy the simulcast program :bang: for the life of me they should buy lottery tickets.

I have always floated this idea around for the place but what do I know. Make the Pegasus an outstanding buffet where you break even lets say $12-18 a head. You can turn profit on the sale of alcohol if a person decides to drink. I'm going to ripped for this but also make an arcade area where the children can play for free with a dinner ticket. Give a family of 4 a $2 win ticket on the track handicappers best bet of the day. Eventually it will be the kiddies saying "mom and dad lets go to the track". The adults will perceive the dining experience as a great value and everyone is happy. All of a sudden you have a new customer base.

Just my two cents.

Pegasus-style (80s-type glitz) with an arcade doesn't make sense to me, but something like a Dave and Busters or Chickie and Petes, maybe with better food, does. Idea may play better at Monmouth. I would take the 2nd floor of the grandstand and do something like this. You get the teenaged set there with something to do and they may start getting interested in the races (that's when I and I imagine many of us starting getting the bug).

Mr. Gural is a smart businessman. I wouldn't underestimate him.
I think this is an investment for the long haul for when slots ultimately
does come to The Meadowlands. Once it does, the debts should be paid much more quickly.

For one thing, revenues from the most successful simulcast venue in the nation will not be diverted into Aquariums, Convention Centers, Rutgers and NFL stadiums. Horseplayer funds stays home for a change.

That said, I can't remember the last time capital improvements were made
to the current grandstand. I think that was like 10-12 years ago when the
Finish Line Bar got installed on the Paddock level. Other than that the facility has been left unattended. That's just not right.
