The best and most bettable Derby prep this weekend...

Is Brethren ready to sit at the table with the other major Derby contenders? Undefeated in two starts and a nice pedigree as well.

And what about Monzon and Washingtons Rules? Maybe they can move forward today.
Good race...what's your thoughts?

The outside post may be his undoing..

Check out the #4 Too Experience. What a neat lil story he's become. Sire Drewman's stud fee is $1500 and this guy sold for just $1000 at the OBS Apr sale.
He's won 5 of 6 starts and over $108,000. Gutsy horse. Gets Centeno up today, but I can't see him beating these.

Drewman was a steal at that 1500 stud fee when he was in FL. Has he been relocated up north?

Remember Drewman did win at two turns himself as a racer. Can't go wrong with that Fappiano/Unbridled line out of a Cozzene mare.

At first glance, his humble breeding seems unimpressive. But dig deeper on the damside.

Don't forget Meadowlake had the brilliant Meadow Star, as well as the speedy types Meafara (filly ran tough-luck second in BC Sprint) and the MD runner Meadow Monster. His most significant youngster was Greenwood Lake, who was good enough to win the G1 Champagne and rank second on the Experimental Free Hcp of his year. Meadowlake's daughter Collect Call did sire the precocious Old Fashioned, who was brilliant until injury (and a route of ground) did him in.

Too Experience is the gutsy type who always puts in a run. But whether this former ClmN2L can roll with these classy types remains to be seen. Safe to say he will be rolling late with Centeno aboard. Play underneath (or on top) of exotics?

This one is a good race and wow...a 10 horse field!!

If brethren is as good as he seems to be, he should be able to overcome his post draw, IMO...this seems to be the most competitive field today and should tell us something about these guys.

Brethren
Monzon
Beamer
Washington Rules

I didn't think it was bettable; I have Brethren over Washington's Rules. I think form-wise, Monzon is going the other way. But, we'll see.

Brethren is not jumping up at me from page, so with this in mind, others having a previous run in locker i'll chuck him and let him beat me.

Monzon ran a nice race in Count Fleet and if he can repeat he should be in shake up. Others of interest are Washington Rules and the first time stretcher Ligitate.

I like Monzon in here - he woke up on dirt and has enough time to recover from that big improvement.

That should be Litigate. Got to give up trying to Multitask :)

I'll take the :2: Adulaire.
Got beat up by some good ones( Tapizar and Anthony's Cross) trying to break his maiden at Churchill. figured it all out in his first start at 3 with a nice late closing number.

My ticket was poorly constructed to say the least. I key on these two longshots (#4 and #5) and wind up with only the exacta. Should have hit a nice tri there, but nooooooo.....

Phantom, nice call on Too Experience.

As for Brethren, I didn't like the way he broke so I was surprised how easily he was right up to the front at the start. Nice race.

You really need to play $.10 Superfectas.

3,10/2,3,7,8,10/4,5/4,5 = $1.60
3,10/4,5/2,3,7,8,10/4,5 = $1.60
3,10/4,5/4,5/2,3,7,8,10 = $1.60

Superfecta for $.10 = $195.86

Great pickup on Too Experience, Phantom. He had the breeding, and a patient ride by Centeno. Maybe Brethren is better than his brother...

 to those cashin.

 Monson and few others seemed to be in trouble a long way from wire to me, but i don't want to take away from winner as it was a nice effort by him on his first start of 2011 and it will be interesting to see how he performs next time

 Good job to those that got it! At least I got Brethren right...which was really a no brainer! he did break bad, off stride, but man, did he turn on the afterburners to get position...I really like that explosive turn of foot, then he relaxed pretty well up there...an easy win, and yeah...he's a much better horse than Super Saver...who was just a lucky horse last year on Derby day...Brethren is a real classy dude...he just moved up on my Derby list. He's also gorgeous:)

Ran out of time for an edit...I had Beamer for place, his pedigree says long and he sure was coming...doubt he would have beaten Brethren, but he looks like a colt that will love that extra distance.

:) I was at the track today! He is a real impressive looking horse. I was watching at the start, and it looked to me like he stumbled a bit getting out of the gate. His run today in person was dominating, but I wonder if he may be a bit too early for the Derby.

My rating for Brethren 112

Nothing spectacular number wise, but a nice performance to build on.
