Beautiful Dayton Ohio to get Beulah Park.........?

I have no idea why? The I-75 corridor is going to become the gateway to racetracks in Ohio and the Cincy Kentucky area.......

They are going to need a big trailer to move that dump.

I resemble those remarks. I have a lot of history tied into that place, as do a lot of other good participants in this great game. :(

Now, don't take me too seriously here. I'm all for sardonic humor; in fact, I'm there now everyday and work in an environment of grim humor. I'm just sayin', just because it doesn't fit in with your current outlook on the state of affairs doesn't mean it should be swept into the dustbin of history like yesterday's losing tickets, to mangle several metaphors all at once.

Now, back to your regularly schedule cheap shots.
:)

As to the matter at hand, I think the strategy goes like this. The casino permits are rigid; they were approved in a statewide vote to be built in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Toledo, and Penn owns the latter two. A racing permit can be relocated, and with it, presumably, eventually, the ability to open a slots shop. So by moving Beulah to Dayton and Raceway to Youngstown, Penn separates its own properties and reaches into decent-sized markets that are currently unrepresented in the plans for casino growth in Ohio. Pretty slick, actually.

Ralph, you are so, so bad. Still, this one's hilarious.

Rasta, one important question. All the money you made at Beulah? Was it based on the handicapping analysis of "the twins". And, were "the twins" the reason you chose to wager at Beulah?

They were the icons of "eye candy", long before the rest of the industry's suits began catching on.

I was there before the Twins, and I'm there now post-Twins, but was never here during their run. I don't bet, so they never had any mystical power over me. Their significance in raising the awareness of Beulah at the dawn of the simulcasting era is epic, though, no doubt about it. :)

I actually have very fond memories of Beulah park.

I spent many weekends and afternoons there with my dad. I learned to drive a car in the parking lot. I also attended some very fun concerts there in the summer, they held concerts for a couple of seasons. Grove City Ohio is a nice suburb of Columbus. Blue collar and honest.

The bottom line is that in a world full of tracks, Beulah is a 2500 k claimer

Moving to Mondays and Tuesdays and getting the Beulah signal on the NYOTB
menu was a very smart move and probably saved the track at a time it could have gone under. (I think a gentleman named Mike Weiss was instrumental in making this happen?).

Didn't Beulah also have a very small turf course (like 5f) and run 4.5f turf races?

My only visit to Beulah was about 10 years ago and most of the card was cancelled due to bad weather. Perhaps it's time to get in another visit in before they move. (You have to admire a place that can get some 10-12 horse fields with a TOTAL purse around $3,800.). :) This too will change drastically with the introduction of slots.

Ohio has tons of small fairs racing harness horses and offering pari-mutuel wagering. Is it that much more expensive to race thoroughbreds, which is why no OH fairs race thoroughbreds? I know that in harness racing one can more easily own and drive their own horse, and it is less stressful allowing one to run more frequently.

Even if they get the ok to move they will be open here for two more years. Yes, Mike Weiss should get a lot of credit for getting their signal out and keeping things solvent. Business is down since Mike left and PENN came in maybe because of the NY OTB, don't know.

Would have liked them to sink 200M here instead of building a new track. As Rasta said a good move on their part.

I won't miss the local races but understand it will create a hardship for the local farms and horsemen.

Mike Weiss is starting up a new ADW. Its Darkhorsebet.com. It should be up and running soon.

Beulah ran turf races in the 70's and 80's at all distances. The hedges got messed up, and made the ground uneven so they never fixed it. Neat little track in the middle of a neighborhood.

They are up and running. In addition to the usual bunch of tracks available to virtually everyone, they recently secured the Monarch (previously known as Magna) content. Hopefully close to getting NYRA and CDI content in the near future.

The Van Wert county fair in Ohio runs a few days of harness racing and a day of quarter horse and thoroughbred racing.

Mr. Downes - Are you promised a job in Dayton??

I hear the perks on darkhorse will be pretty good. I am going to give it a try.
