Sadly, I just wanna be able to stay home. Got work this evening and I fear the roads will be nasty when I get off. I'm in Lafayette, La where our high is only 35 today with rain later on. Low tonite is 26. I know it's worse where you are...we cannot drive on icy roads. Friend in Houston told me they had over 200 accidents this morning.

Weather forced Oaklawn to cancel its opening day card, Jan. 14, Jan. 20 and Feb. 3 – Feb. 6. The six cancellations equal the record for most cards lost in a season also reached in 2003, 1989, 1979 and 1960.The $100,000 Essex Handicap, which was originally scheduled for Feb. 5, will now be part of the 10-race card on Sunday, Feb. 13.

This is the part I found interesting. It shows the History for this type of severe weather is about once a decade, or a little more. Unfortunate situation for all involved.

Maybe Spring will be just around the corner.
