This is a very interesting question...

Basically, Harrah's Tahoe, Caesar's Tahoe and Harvey's (all owned by Harrah's) have quit buying from a Carson City beer distributor because he testified against a "gross receipts tax bill" that the gaming indistry supports.

I am really interested in your opinions of this... What do you think?

Sounds like blackmail to me. As a stockholder in each company, not the distributor, but BUD, I think I'll consult my lawyer!! (Isn't that what every red-blooded American does nowadays?)

Seems to me that Harrah's mgmnt should mimic the Reno restaurant owners, buy the stuff and pour it down the drain!!

It's time for all BUD drinkers to rise up and boycott Harrah's! (FYI; I own a bit more BUD than Harrah's. (lol))

I guess the important thing would be whether Harrah's was trying to influence the guy in advance of his testimony. But if it's just retaliation after the fact they probably wouldn't be breaking any laws.

My opinion is that this action is (or should be) against election law.

Think of it this way... A company says that we will only buy from distributors that vote the way we think they should. Or, worse, we will only hire employees atht vote our way. Or, one more step... we will hire you to do a particular job if you vote our way.

Just my opinion.

Dave,

I agree with you that it should be against the law, but it probably isn't. As far as I know you can choose not to buy from someone for any reason you want. Governmental entities have their own set of rules but I don't think private enterprise has any restrictions. When you're selling to someone or hiring you can't discriminate but those are different circumstances. And casinos aren't even required to let everyone have equal access to their properties because of the trespassing laws.

Nevertheless, if Harrah's wants to play political games then I just won't patronize any of their properties and advise others to do the same. Actually, that'll be really easy to do since I don't really like any of their properties much anyway. I used to work for a company here that sucked up to Harrah's big time and got really tired of their people demanding things that were way beyond what we were contractually obligated to provide. I'm not surprised that they think they can get away with this latest trick.

According to Tom Stanley in "The Millionaires Mind" that is exactly what a millionaire would do.
