I saw this via a Google email alert. This happens all too often out in the bush. I was at two country meets last January (2010) in Oz, that had this same problem. The first was at Chinchilla and kangaroos were the issue. The second was at Gilgandra and this time it was wallabies. Both times the outriders were able to chase them off the track and racing was only momentarily delayed.

Many years ago, an alligator crawled out of one of the ponds at Hialeah and got onto the track. The race was already running and the horses all managed to avoid the reptile. For some time I enjoyed the trouble note in the Form: "Jumped alligator".

I would like to live in a world where a chicken can cross a road without anybody questioning his motives.

I thought I heard something about a skunk on the track at CT a few months ago.

I think that the signature and avatar go hand(gun)-in-hand(gun), no?

I just know I'm not questioning his motives. :)

this year during the quarterhorse meet the outrider had to shoo one away from the track prior to a race
