I hate starting new threads, but this one brings nothing to the table but a little request from all of you that stun me with the vast array of oddball knowledge and the whatwithall to display it in these threads...

I love it when I stumble on some band doing a cover of a song that I like and I've never heard it before. Or even better when its a song that I hate that is covered beautifully by a band that I hate. Or a mix and match of both.

Anyway... Once a month I get the itch to You-Tube randomly for tunes that in the old days I might actually load into the cassette deck and I hit a herd of this type...

Anyone got any?

Howzabout one that sorta fits the first category for me...

Not sure if you are interested, but anything done by Eva Cassidy is a winner. I would have to say that she is one of my favorite singers. "Over the Rainbow", "Autumn Leaves", "What a Wonderful World"...all nice versions, and she plays the guitar on her songs too. Sorry i didnt post videos. rbj

not really what you're looking for exactly, but this in my mind will always be the best cover ever, literally.

"Quick, Pavaratti isn't gonna show -- will you get up and sing Nessun Dorma in his place in front of 60 million in a few minutes?"

"What? Yeah, I'll sing that mother****er"

Aretha's got balls like nobodies business. Once in a generation type brass balls. Her performance is all screwed up, but it's kind of mind-blowingly great, too. Depends on how you want to look at things.

Perfect.. and even hitting multiple categories in the first few tries... Tommy found the best Let It Be ever and Chicken... wow... thanks - that got right to the heart of something I NEVER could have appreciated without direction...

...reminded me of the first time someone played this on the stereo and it took me half the song to realize who I was listening to...

Da. One of my most popular bits is to sing pop tunes in an operatic voice. One of my big hits is "Do ya think I'm sexy" - Rod Stewie.

Chicky - Just when I thought we'd never hear ND again you haul it out. Puccini would roll if he knew.

I just found another and tucked it in. What's with people disabling embedding? They're the ones steppin' on copyrights and they curb usage. :D

Too rich.

Pretty sure it's Nina Simone. I'm betting Respect was originally recorded by Aretha. And Van Zandt wrote P&L, no?

I'll cop to finally googling your question and coming away thinking either you were crazy or that Wikipedia is the sole cause of declining scores in students.

One of the most amazing covers is Eric Clapton's unplugged version of his own classic, Layla. He took one of the top 25 rock songs of all time and did a completely different arrangement that is great in its own way.

Lead singer of Creed singing Riders on the Storm with the remaining members of the Doors. Heard an interview with the guitar player who said the first time he heard Scott Stapp sing the song he closed his eyes and thought he was back many years.

This version isn't the best one I have heard but you get the idea.
