The California Horse Racing Board launched an investigation on Wednesday after betting was conducted on that day’s first race at Turf Paradise in Phoenix for five minutes after the race started.

Shocking development...shocking in that it hasn't happened for a few months at least.

The statement said that $3,896 of bets placed at California racetracks
and simulcast facilities were not merged with the Turf Paradise pools.....

That $3,000 wagered would have also severely cut
into the payouts had they been commingled.

But it's nice to know that some locals are paying attention
to racing outside the state. Who knew?
