View Full Version : Novak's a lover, not a gambler
Take a gander at Claire Novak's latest installment on ESPN.com. What do you guys think about this?

I'd like to see the piece that she wrote that made that person question whether she's a bettor. I've met Claire and she's a hard worker and a good writer. If she was writing something talking about who she likes in the double at Gulfstream then I'd question whether she bets. I don't think that she lacks credibility because of her wagering or lack thereof.

Just curious what Arlington Park she visited-where maiden claimers ran for a $28,000 purse. Never seen that in all the years I've followed AP.

Ya, $18,000 maybe. Must be a typo.

I don't know for sure, but it is possible that the following may have put "Tom De Martini, horseplayer" in a foul mood.
Here are her two preceding blog posts on ESPN.
Horsemen: Give Zenyatta HOY (http://espn.go.com/horse-racing/blog/_/name/novak_claire/id/5947289/give-zenyatta-hoy) (Interviews with horsemen.)
Eclipse Award ballot (http://espn.go.com/horse-racing/blog/_/name/novak_claire/month/december-2010)
Last week, the opinion expressed by this party was that a Horse of the Year vote for Zenyatta is a vote for racing itself.
See also: Novak: For the Love of the Game (http://www.paulickreport.com/news/people/novak-for-the-love-of-the-game/) at the Paulick Report (with plenty of comments)
My favorite comment at the Paulick link is #40: I think what Ms. Novak is saying is she doesn't bet because the takeout is to high.
First, I think this will be my answer from now on. Second, I think Novak should write about whatever the hell she wants to.
I think the comments to her article on Paulick Report are more interesting than her article!
