Last I saw, engadget updated the price to $699 at Best Buy. The comparably spec'd iPad (minus the dual core) is $729. Their mistake would seem to be in not releasing Wifi only, and 16GB only at the same time.

There mistake is being 200 bucks over the bottom line Ipad.

That kills the deal.......... no reason to buy this zoom when you can get an Ipad for 200 bucks more. And Btw, when that new ipad hits the market, used prices will be lower and I know many people who are just waiting for that to happen.

The xoom is not a player at the price. The minute the RIM playbook hits the market, xoom will be a long forgotten assembly line.

the RIM playbook is DOA. Rim hasn't released a product with consumer traction in several years, despite multiple OS rewrites and expensive marketing campaigns. What little play the playbook gets will be from corporations, not consumers. Even then, not sure why they'd buy the playbook. It doesn't even natively get BB email. No reason even as a corporate cust to choose it over an Ipad or Droid.

Look at this table, 75% of the upcoming tablets are using the Android OS which makes sense as the Google backed OS is tracking to become the number 1 mobile phone operating system worldwide and most of the Android users will opt for an Android tablet.

Everything points to Xoom initially out selling the other tablets excepting Apple. They have heavy financial backing and name brand with Motorola, Google and Verizon.

With the level of 'smart' currently in smart phones some Co. should just sell a an external monitor/pad controlled from the phone for a around a hun.

Pads are larger screened smart phones.

no reason to choose it over an Ipad 2 maybe. Have you seen one run yet? Incredible CPU power, multiple tabs and much more. It is a damn nice Tablet computer. If they don't screw up and fix the little stuff, like mentioned in your posts....it could be a hot item.

Time will tell

I bought a Creative Zen 30 GB a long time ago it was way ahead of it's time. Played AVI movies, lots of great features that the others didn't. Still have it but it never became popular because everyone wanted an ipod. Winamp was there from the beginning but never the industry leader.

The same argument was made for the Windows phone and sales are NOT surprisingly soft.

Just because a product is better doesn't mean it will make it in today's climate. It's a I want to be cool (in this case Apple) world now.

Chrome is a great browser yet most refuse to use it. Firefox has gone downhill yet a majority of people don't switch.

Xoom available tomorrow 2-24. There are some initial problems as Motorola has fast tracked the device to hit the market ahead of the Ipad2.

Problems:

Flash postponed to allow Adobe to finish the 10.2 Flash update.

Micro-sd card functionality postponed additional mapping needed.

4G compatibility will need a in store update.

At least a months wait for the wifi only version ($600.00).

No word on Netflix app for the Xoom.

In defense of Motorola most of the problems are related to Google just finishing the Honeycomb OS leaving developers little time to integrate the hardware with the software. Probably 1-2 months before all the tablet options are fully optimized.

Ralph,
I think its a given that Ipad can save Bris single file format zip files from the Bris site, the question is if your on the go and have a Ipod touch can it also download a zipped Brisfile that later can be transfered to a laptop?

yes....... a google search reveals a few ways to do it. I have absolutely no experience with an Ipod touch (even though my wife has one) but found some info on saving zip files to it.

For some reason I bought the Wifi only Xoom despite all the negative reviews and promised but unreleased updates. Originally I was going to get Ipad1 for $349.00 but the e-books and PDF files seemed slightly clearer on the Xoom. So I ended up paying about $600.00 for the Xoom from Amazon.

For handicapping ezPDF Reader works fine for DRF PP's.

I use Dropbox to sync the PDF files from my computer to the Xoom

If your interested in a tablet right now the Ipad1 is probably the best bet with the lower cost and thousands of apps but Android makes a nice change-up to the Apple eco-system.

Don't jump too soon. Lots of news coming down the pike. Including an Amazon tablet. The new 10 inch galaxy tab is getting great Reviews. The htc 4g flyer just went on sale in Europe and will be here soon

I've had one for about a month (wifi only Version) and while it works fine for PDF documents and e-books there are drawbacks:

No Netflix yet, rumors point to June release.
No SD-card support, no date yet on roll-out.
Limited App support.
The Charger plug to the Xoom is Flimsy.
Heavier than the Ipad

On the good side I've had no problem with lock-ups or re-boots.
Wifi works fine all the time.
Drop-box works fine.
Internet browsing is smooth.
EzPDF Reader annotates PDF files and is compatible with Past Performances
from DRF, Equibase and Brisnet.
Video replay is average.
Kindle for Android is now updated for Honeycomb.

You will need a case for protection and support so that's an additional cost.

By far the best Tablet deal right now is the Ipad1 refurb which is still available for $349.00. Amazon offers the Xoom wifi for $589.00 with free shipping and no tax.

From what I've read the best Android Tablets are still a few months away.
