FIREFOX version 3.6.13
WINDOWS XP Home Edition

I open my firefox browser. I successfully navigate some sites, even more than one site via several tabs.

Then, I need to minimize it to do other work. I then want to maximize firefox again and continue surfing. Lo and behold, I look to the bottom of my screen to find the bar in the taskbar and it has disappeared.

This happens many times. I have noticed that if I open other firefox windows instead of tabs within one window, that reduces the likelihood of it occurring.

But today, the first window has disappeared twice, while my other two firefox windows for other sites remained fine.

Help? Insight? This is the latest firefox version.

I have this happen with a lot of things. I don't know if there is a fix or not but I just hit <ALT>TAB and tab through everything on the taskbar whether it is visible or not.

Same FF but Vista Home Premium -- NTF.

Are you using private browsing ?

Let's say you have a FF window open with 3 tabs. While in the 3rd tab you decide to Start Private Browsing to catch some porn. Two of the tabs disappear. When you're done with the porn and shut down FF, the window in the taskbar is gone. But if you relaunch FF (I do so from a taskbar icon), what will come up is a copy with your original tabs.

I always thought this was normal and actually liked it.

BTW, you should be ashamed of yourself for watching so much porn....

Me too ... for a while.
I'm using Safari right now and have been for a month or so. It's mostly faster than FF (not as fast as Chrome but still pretty good) and I haven't had any issues with it pegging the CPU to max and some other things that FF used to do. Chrome was also a bit of a nuisance. Both Chrome and FF would disappear but stay running.
Soon might be time to go back to IE. ;)
