I just bought a Quinn book called "Handicapping the Stakes Festival" at the thrift shop for $1! Have not read it yet. looks like it goes through the year talking about handicapping the major stakes races. Maybe I can learn the stakes game yet!:D

I enjoyed that book alot. When it first came out simulcasting was starting to boom and we could bet on many stakes for the first time from around the country. In some ways those were good old days, because often we had an opportunity to bet into different pools from different tracks and shop for the best odds.

On Saturdays I sometimes use the Custom feature at BRIS and download all the Stakes races. Quinn concentrates on the highest level, but I have found that some of the best betting opportunities and most interesting stakes to handicap are the non-graded stakes that have high purses. Fuller fields without the big boys, but still classy, formful horses.
