Wow! That was damnably good. Who else besides Bowie and Crosby was on stage?

I got that concert on the DVR (from HDNet). Trust me, it sounds much better in Dolby Surround (and hiDef!)

I second the motion, the sound on this one is outstanding !
The show stopper is really the song before, Arnold Layne, which was penned by Syd Barrett, the founder of Pink Floyd, and was thier first hit prior to the release of the debut album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. Bowie is a big Syd Barrett fan.
Wolfgangs Vault is named after Bill Graham, the famous concert promoter. Some of his concert recordings are very nice but there are many better versions available to collectors, some of which the Graham estate has pinched and used as thier own. Many of those are available for free as well,
if you know a collector ;)

I love The Who. They are far and away my favorite band and in my opinion, the greatest rock and roll group ever....

If you ever get a chance, watch The Kids are Alright followed by Amazing Journeys, The Story of The Who. If you can watch those two dvd's back to back and do not become a Who fanatic...then you are stronger than I am!

I saw them in Dallas and OKC just a couple of years ago and the energy still shown onstage by Roger and Pete is simply amazing!

In their heyday they were widely considered the greatest live band around. They never sounded the same twice! I like The Beatles....but The Who were out there playing live every night. They were one with the fans while The Beatles went away to the studio. The greatness of The Who has never been captured on record (totally opposite of The Beatles).

Pete Townshend's lyrics are some of the most amazing pieces of work in rock music. Quadrophenia should be standard listening for any boy growing up.

Keith Moon made the drums a lead instrument which was not done before by any bands. His out of control, but somehow always on beat, style formed The Who's signature sound. John Entwistle's bass lines are incredible. Townshend's power chords and Daltrey's incredible voice....came together to make the most "horrible" noise in the world....according to Daltrey!

I like the "noise" they make!

I'm at a soiree in Del Mar a few weeks ago. Backyard gig. Twas yapping with a snappy little number while pluckin' on guitar. I ax if she ever learned how to play an instrument. She says the accordion but even as a youth her hogans got in the way. I cracked into this tune with about 15 people singin' along. What a hoot...

Squeeze Box has to be the worst tune The Who ever played ! The live version actually sounds pretty good though!

When they announced that tour, and Milwaukee was snubbed, WQFM's Tim "the rock and roll animal" went out on the studio's 18th story ledge in protest, and stayed there for 28 days until Roger Daltry phoned and agreed to do a show at the MECCA Auditorium.

I saw them in Louisville on that tour; great stuff. 29 years ago and they still haven't said farewell.

I was embarrassed for them during that Super Bowl halftime thing. It was just as bad as Jimmy Page playing Whole Lotta Love at the 2008 Olympics.

Loved the Who!
I saw them live for their Who's Next tour.
Did a 30 minute version of Won't Get Fooled Again, followed by an equipment-smashing My Generation ending. But the old stuff was the best.

Anyone remember when Pete had smashed his hand on the whammy bar and had to play the next show in a cast?

Roger asked him, "have you been playing too much of "Pictures of Lily" again?!

The Who's old stuff is incredible, but there is something to be said about the new stuff too. This song "Tea and Theatre" is one of their best songs. I saw them play it live to close the show in Dallas and in OKC.

The crowd reaction was unreal. 20,000 or so people all going completely silent at one time. You could only hear the music. Honestly, no one made a sound!

When Roger sang, "Before we walk from the stage.......the two of us....will you have some tea"....there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Seriously, there were grown men with tears streaming down their cheeks!

It was even more powerful when you notice the dim light shining across to an empty drum kit and a bass guitar leaning on an amplifer with no one at either spot.

Can any other rock band cause this much emotion at a concert? I don't think so. People walking out of the arena.....were like...."wow, that was incredible!"
