A sample of Horses in 2010 starting with a Lasix Change

2L ...Slight increase in Win rate but still helps the ROI

....Starters....Wins...% wins..%ROI
2L....2432......386....16%.....-7%
1L....1848......250....14%....-18%
+L......465.......50....11%....-17%

Ray,
In earlier decades the presence of lasix was a significant handicapping tool.

Lasix and it's intended use is/was to retard bleeding.
Alternatives are available today.
In addition, each state or province has its own restrictions on the quantity allowed.
The numbers in NJ, may be entirely different in PA, and likewise in Ontario,

Unofficially, lasix acts as a method of flushing the bladder faster for items which are not desired to be distinguishable.
Today there are far more methods of intervention and lasix may not even be a factor in its former "undistinguishable capacity".

Good points Don, but let me add.

Assuming the Lasix is administered for its intended purpose, (a big assumption) I believe there are external influences at work here also.
1. The Tr/Dr is more likely to "use'm hard" the 2nd start if the 1st start showed any improvement and
2. The animal itself braves up after a race with less O2 starvation. And of course, stats don't care what the pharmaceutical is, only the correlation, but I can't say how meaningful these numbers are.

Ray,
A year or two ago (hell! perhaps it was longer, I'm getting old), there was a trainer at the Meadowlands with amazing stats for 2nd time lasix.

Thanks for sharing Ray!

1L is 1st Lasix
2L is 2nd Lasix

+L is back on Lasix?

might be more informative with Trainers in there?

You're right, the +L is back on Lasix, there is also a "L-" meaning discontinuing Lasix but both of these conditions have wide margins of error in my ROI numbers. (Not enough sample size)

....Starters....Wins...% wins..%ROI
L-......366.......45....12%....-35%

I added Trainer info to the Spreadsheet but.. I know the Trainer License for the starter but I don't know the names for all the licenses. Most of the important ones are there. Once again the sample size is too small i.e.

Joe Anderson
Starters 1xL.. 6
Wins 2 (33%)
Bets $12...Collects $15.60 30% ROI

Hi Ray and all
I'm pretty sure that the horses recieve a significantly higher dose the second time they are given Lasix.

Welcome wjchild. I wasn't aware of the dosage change.
(Used to take it myself for blood pressure control :))

When I look at a program and see 2L, I usually look at last few races and compare 4thQT with previous finishes but it's tough to judge improvement that way.

Best of Luck
