The track is brand new. How can there be a record?

so the 10 horse, who now has finished second in two maiden races, went about 1:08.1? Souped up course.

that is my question. drf is still showing 1:07.1 up until today
If the track is this fast today, there is a good chance we will see another track record today.

look at his last race.brutal ride.

He never had a chance to run in his last.

This surface is lightning so we need to watch the rest of the races as it dries out. Visually impressive for sure but ......... we'll see.

Just as an aside, The Factor ran approximately 40 Beyer points faster than the horses in the California Breeders' Stakes did.

They set a bunch of track records yesterday. It's a new surface.

102? So the track variant for that day's races was -45? That doesn't jibe with the variant for the rest of the card, unless the figure was lowered artifically (considering the track variant for the previous race was a -36, which would make The Factor's number a 111).

It was the first day. There is no way to know if the relationship between 6f and other distances matches the basic speed chart. There are many that do not.

I'm not saying the variant wasn't "split" or the race "broken out" or whatever people want to call it, but I would give it some time. The runner up seems to be a very good horse so I'm not ruling out a VERY high figure.

It seems like they're using the old records, the chart of the last race today shows the track record for 5 1/2f as being set by Kona Gold in 1999.

Yeah, it makes no sense to do that, but it is horse racing. I can't say I'm surprised.

actually it does make sense if you think about it.

when they replaced the surface last time, it literarly, was a new surface. but they technically went back ot the first surface, so now the old records just don't apply anymore but the old old records, on dirt, do.

so I think all the track records are now at pre syth

Same exact mixture of sand and clay, etc? If it isn't the same mixture then the records should be new.

If Hialeah runs Tbreds again someday but changes their sand/clay mixture will the old records still be the standard?

To follow up on this, there was definitely a 6f/7f split, not a single race broken out. The 6f races were deemed about 7 points faster than 7f races.

I'd vote yes. I understand the other side of the arugment, but tracks change surfaces all the time and don't distinguish between records. For example, Charles Town completely re-did their track a few yrs ago (everything was taken up, base and all). In addition, many northern tracks that run yr-round are winterized in the late fall, which can change the surface. So to me as long as the configuration of the track isn't changed, the records should stand.
