For those wanting some racing action on Fri. Dec. 24/10, here are some tracks that I know of that are operating:

THOROUGHBREDS:

--PHILADELPHIA PARK

QUARTER HORSES:

--HIALEAH PARK

GREYHOUNDS

--DERBY LANE (matinee)
--PALM BEACH (matinee)
--SARASOTA (matinee)
--ST. JOHNS (matinee)
--WHEELING DOWNS (matinee)

--If I missed some greyhound tracks on the above list, please feel free to add them.

--Some ADWS may not be open this day, or don't carry the racing action at some of the above venues.

--Good luck at the races on Dec. 24/10, if you'll be betting on some of them.

No Australia tonight, but they do race on our Xmas night, coz it's their 26th.

A couple of days off never hurt anyone, though....... ;)

Merry Christmas all!

Decades ago Hialeah raced on Christmas day, in the 40's and 50's I believe. In more recent times, Los Alamitos quarters would race on Christmas night. In spite of Santa Anita opening the next day, recall that the crowds were quite large. Cannot pinpoint when they stopped, would say perhaps late 70's or early 80's.

Today and tomorrow are actually great days to have full slates of premier tracks running. If you want to take a few days off, why not take off Dec 21 to Dec 23? These are two days where EVERYONE is off from work, the pools would be pretty big if elite tracks were running elite cards.

I concur!

Many of us are already sick of Christmas and would love a good horse race for distraction :)

I like Christmas.....just not all of the crap that seems to go with it...

I don't know why they don't run tracks on Christmas night. Think about it... is there any day of the year people are going to have extra cash (gifts) to burn, they can't go anywhere else because everywhere else is closed. You've done the family thing, you've eaten, open presents, given presents, went to church. Then factor in most are going to go to movies, or sit back and watch a movie/ basketball game. There is nothing going on at say, 6-7pm that is going to stop someone on Christmas from getting to the track. People are looking to entertain themselves on Christmas night. what better way to entertain yourself than to go to the horse track and play the 50% takeout pick 6at santa anita lol?

You could even throw a promotion in, every one who brings 2 can goods or a toys for tots presents gets free admission

every year my step grandmother gives me 100 dollars. I know it's coming tomorrow lol. that could be track money.

I was quite bored today, I never played quarter horses before, so I said okay I'm going to take 20 bucks out of my account and just try to play HP. I found a horse I liked, made a wager, after the horse got basically held at the start and was out of the race, I said okay I think I will stick to TB's lol.

Would be interested to see parx handle today.

Everyone is too politically correct these days, they want to act like they care about their employees and let them 'spend time with the family' on this 'special' day.

Bah humbug, give me some racing action. You're a racetrack, open up the damn doors and run some racing.

You have to think of the employees and their families. Its not like they are first line responders and needed for public safety.

Also a few less cards to fill probably means bigger fields over the rest of the holiday cards. Plenty of time to prep on the 24th and 25th for some nice cards on the 26th. Pre-poly (I stopped playing pretty much once SAX went Poly) I had 5 or 6 Malibu winners in a row. I think because I had quiet time to focus on the race.

You know what though? I'd be willing to bet that some people (ok, a lot of them) would be willing to work on the holiday for double time and a half. I don't know, maybe i'm the only one would would do it.

Yes and make it a money-losing venture for the tracks.

It wont be a money loser if you do it the right way.

Hell I don't see any freaking casino's closing down on Christmas Eve or even Christmas Day. They work their employees 7/24/365 days a year. I was shocked to see Delta Downs took the entire week off. Think of the revenue they lost.
