Does anyone have info on this new supertrainer at Calder? He has been on a crazy tear, and wins 3 races in two weeks with the same horse. He might even be eclipsing Rudy Rodriguez.

He's 23% on the yr - that doesn't seem like a supertrainer? Are his numbers over the past 90 or 120 days a lot better?

He was 2 for 66 two yrs ago during his first yr of training. He was 9% last yr, and now he's 23%. Didn't he ship down horses from NY? Six or seven yrs ago when Maryland's low-level claiming races were still superior to CT, MD trainers shipping to CT would always win at a much higher rate at CT than they did in MD. It was purely a function of racing better horses. Is that happening here or is he winning with horses he's claiming in Florida?

Maybe he is doing something wrong. I just don't think you can draw any conclusions yet.

I agree, I don't know any of the factors involved. I do know 23% was considered the stratosphere of training 15 years ago. Now people say he is "only 23%".

That's funny. I looked up Peter Ferriola's stats from the late 80s a couple of days ago. Back then, he was "the" supertrainer, predating the actual nomenclature. When I looked up his stats for 1987 and 1988, I found he was 24% and 25%, respectively. And I thought to myself, "oh that's not that great!" Times have changed!

2 wins so far today. Just won the 6th with one he claimed out of his last. Took blinkers off & the horse won by 9.

His last 50 starts has to be near 40% if not more, and he is winning with everything. He is running his horses off very short rest, and they are not going backwards at all.

Firstoff,
Good point about his last 50 starts. If anyone on this thread is not watching his races, they need to tune in. I have never seen anything like it. A good example is the most recent. Calder 6th 12/23. The horse is 5-1 morning line and goes off at 9/5 and draws away by many. He finished dead last 7 days ago and had never been past 6f. He's not winning everything, but you better watch out when the money is coming in.

Don't forget, he did all his winning at Aqueduct. So you would have to factor out his starts at Bel and Toga.

Seems like Boo is overclassifying (badly) his runners at GP. I'm not sure why a trainer who is not suspected of being a supertrainer in the making, would be putting all his horses in no shot spots. He didnt get to be a .25 trainer by running 10 and 20-1 shots all the time. Not sure why he's classifying to lose.

Curious if you can easily find trainer stats for Oscar Barrera. He pre-dated Ferriola in NY and was winning too many. Steve Cauthen was his go-to rider.
