Hi all,

I am taking at look at the turf races at Tampa today....

The 5th looks very interesting to me but I don't know what to do with #2 Manchurian High.

This 2 yr-old colt is making his 4th lifetime start....he debuted at Saratoga in the Saratoga Special against Kantharos....finished 3rd in a field of 4 on a muddy mess of a track.

The next 2 starts were disasters now this one starts in a 32K Mcl...

Listed as 9/2 but gets Centeno and adds blinkers....has also been away since Oct 2nd.

What do you think?

My 3rd ranked contender. Form questions obviously. Does fit a Tampa maiden category I have that hits at 29%. Probably a better bet for ITM than win, however, with maidens....who knows?.....lol

you just picked the toughest race of the day in the whole united states of america to figure. my suggestion is to try to figure out another race.

The race is tough and I would pass, but if you made me choose I would most likely go with the Motion horse.

Not the greatest handicapper, but I have it as:

14AE-9-13AE-5

I don't like Manchurian High, because while he does take a major class drop, he showed absolutely nothing in his prior three races. And I'm not putting money on a horse that has shown nothing.

The 9 will be close to the front, most of the race, so if he can get some slow fractions, he'll be the one to beat.

If the 14 races, I'll be inclined to bet against him as he is coming off a good performance, at a much higher price, with a sharp workout just a couple of days ago.

Whatever you pick Good Luck!

I love betting maiden races...especially maiden turf races.

This race is without a doubt a "skullbuster".

I am currently waiting for the scratches/changes before making any decisions on this race.

Thanks for the replies.

With no scratches I would go with the :5: doubt he'll pay close to 8/1ML

I am going with a win bet on the :5: as well. Covering the place hole with exactas, :1: :2: :14: over the :5:

You can forget 8/1 for sure now.

Note that the :1: is featured on the 1st page of the DRF as a trainer pattern. Agree that this race is a monkey puzzle.

Decided to pass this race as nothing looks enticing enough.

I'd agree with the 9 but that one is currently 2-1.

Nice call with the :2: ; guess the monkey puzzle factor kicked in with the place horse. Would have been a nice wheel.

Kelso, a "monkey puzzle" for me is a race that's wide open for a lot of possibilities. This race seemed to qualify.

Got it ... good phrase. Thanks.

(I think racing needs lots more monkey puzzles ... to solve the handle puzzle. Competitiveness breeds the big payouts.)
