In my opinion no, Got Koko had a worst trip than Azeri and still won. Azeri just didn't show up.

I don't think I've ever heard an owner or trainer ever say, "We just sucked today; absolute horse $hit." Instead we always get the usual excuses trotted out; can't anyone in this game be honest...for once?? Are trainers so fearful that the horses will get taken away after one bad race? It's too bad horses can't talk; I can just hear the Randy Moss comparisons "I'll run when I feel like running".

Owners are simply not capable of thinking rationally about their horses, particularly after they've just lost a big race. I think Mike Smith's ride is certainly open to criticism, but the fact of the matter is that Azeri simply ran flat. When Smith called on her, she responded with very little, and probably would not have won the race under any scenario.

You think ego comes in to play at all?? Possibly with Baffert?? Somehow, its always been the jockeys fault everytime they lose.
