It appears that the total handle taken for NYRA bets has held steady in a week to week comparison to last week, while attendance has shown a nice uptick. Let it continue and lets hope NYRA stays aggressive in getting its clients back.
Two things however, the Belmont Cafe simulcast parlor idea is a little wacky and I don't believe to be cost efficient. How much money does it cost them to man the Belmont Cafe..ie security staff/tellers/parking staff in exchange for I would believe a very few amount of people that would use that facility as on off track betting location. In addition, there is a Nassau OTB about a mile and half down the road with a parking lot directly in the back....no need to walk a block and half like in Belmont. Intersting to see how that works out.
Second, make the Hot Dog and Soda voucher good for every one. I know they are using it for the "bus" crowd because the thinking is no one is going to bus it in, eat a hot dog and hop on the A train back home. The effort of getting to the track via bus would probably mean you are going to bet some cash....I get that. However, this is an opportunity to make the NYRA advantage card similar to a casino player card. For example, once you bet $100 dollars via the card...you qualify for a hot dog and soda. Simple, effective and it would be a door way to other incentive rewards.
For the first time in a while I see positive and progressive steps taken by NYRA hopefully they continue.
